Linking KJV to "An American Dictionary of the English Language" (Noah Webster)

(Very newbie) i watched some lessons and still i cannot seem to link the KJV and the ADEL so that when i select a word in the KJV it will not jump to the word/definition in the other window (ADEL).

Some of the other six windows will link but it is not immediately obvious why.

I bought a number of books, but am using the free version of the s/w.

I selected "Linkset A" in all seven windows (three dot menus)

Basically i want to connect all of the windows to whatever i select in the Bible in the top left side. (Linkset A)

I don't have ADEL, so I can't check that resource.

The ability to link a lexicon or dictionary to a Bible (as example) is resource specific. For example it doesn't work on my Syriac Bible linked to my Syriac Lexicon.

I think (but not sure) that might also be a feature ($). Don't remember.

But while you're waiting for a better answer, in your settings you can set Double-Click to Lookup. In which case, it will grab your top prioritized english dictionary (assuming, an english Bible) and display the definition in your layout.

Thanks ! Some great things to look for for. i found the 'double click' preference. Somehow in the digging, i do believe i set the ADEL as a prioritized Eng. Dict. but still no joy. Maybe it's like you said, some things just don't work. While looking i discovered some other things.

The screenshot didn't post. You can't just copy and paste an image into the forums (it's old software). There are two alternative ways to get an image into a post:

1) Save it to your hard disk and then attach it using the paperclip icon.

2) Copy it to your clipboard, then click on the orange hexagon icon ("Insert Image from Amber"), then click on the right side of that page that comes up (anywhere but on the plus sign), then paste the image there, and finally click Insert. You have to wait a bit for the image to show up (and don't try to scroll or anything while you're waiting, or it won't work).

Link Sets are not how you connect a word in one book to cause it to jump to that word/definition in another book.

Link Sets are used for making two or more books that are indexed similarly (e.g., indexed by Scripture reference for a Bible or Commentary; or by Dictionary order for a dictionary or encyclopedia) scroll in sync when you scroll in one of them.

What you need to do is use Advanced Prioritization. Here are the steps that ought to make it work the way you want:

1) Open the Library, make sure it's in Details View and open the Prioritization pane (it's on the three dots menu on the upper right of the Library: "Prioritize Books")

2) Type something in the Library filter box (where it says "Find books") that will help you find American Dictionary of the English Language (might as well paste the whole title in there).

3) Drag that book (by clicking on any of the fields except the cover image or title, since those would open the book) over into the Prioritization pane, above any other dictionaries.

4) Right-click on this title in the Prioritization pane, and click "Set prioritization limits (advanced)".

5) Click on "from this book"

6) In the "Find books" box at the top, type "kjv" and select the matching one that you want to use:

7) It should look like this now (or whatever version of the KJV you picked):

You should be all set now. Try going to your KJV and double-clicking on any word. It will cause An American Dictionary of the English Language to jump to the definition of that word.

Now if you want to have five other dictionaries ALSO open up to that word, you can set An American Dictionary of the English Language and those dictionaries to the same Link Set and this should work. ADEL will be the main one which drives the others to scroll along with it when double-clicking on a word in the KJV causes ADEL to jump to a definition.

In this layout, I've just double-clicked on dispensation in the KJV on the right; prior to that I had set up another dictionary in Link Set A with ADEL, with the two of them tiled above each other so you could see them both together.

Once you set up the layout you like, you can save it for future use so you don't have to fiddle with the Link Sets again. And the Prioritization will stay permanently (until you remove it).

There was an issue because while i was playing with different buttons, i had created an issue with lemma which stopped the prioritization. It works properly now. I appreciate your detailed work.

So let's say i double click on a word in a verse and out of the six dictionaries etc. three have a definition. I see the flashing indicator of which books had a hit, but i was wondering, is there a lingering indication of which dictionary had a hit or a miss on a particular word?

if you right-click instead, you'll see those dictionaries in the lookup part of the context menu (for selection) EDIT:
