System memory?

I am currently utilizing the most recent update of the Logos Bible software and have encountered a concern. Despite operating on a high-performance laptop, I've observed that the Logos program is consuming an exceptionally large quantity of RAM. My device is a top-tier gaming laptop, equipped with the latest dual solid-state drives, each with a capacity of 2 gigabytes, totalling 4GB of SSD storage. The specifications include an MSI Vector GP77 17-inch QHD Gaming Laptop, powered by an Intel Core i7-13700H processor, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card, 16GB of RAM, and a substantial 4TB SSD following an upgrade, all running on Windows 11 Home.

After installing the Logos software, I noticed it occupies an extensive amount of memory. Is this heightened memory usage typical for the software's latest version?

Currently, Logos is merely operating in the background, which has led me to wonder if a memory upgrade is requisite. Given that I am utilizing the software's AI function, I find myself perplexed by this situation.

I would greatly appreciate your insights or suggestions regarding this issue.

Your picture does not tell the whole story because you cut it off. But the biggest memory usage there is the indexer, which is only temporary.

What you do have showing there is a grand total of less than 2GB. Even the incomplete screen shot does not show Logos using an excessive amount

I assume Dragon is a speech processing software? It is using more than Logos.

It is curious that the indexer does not appear to be doing anything yet still holding onto a large chunk of memory. Did you pause indexing?

I am running on a Lenovo Yoga with 12 gig ram memory. I bought it because of the cheap price at the time... I didn't think it would work out... but I have been very comfortable with it.

I am running Logos Pro (easy access) subscription. I also load up MS Word, Visual Studio 2022, Opera Browser, Anki, and a homebuilt program I built.

I have never run into problems yet. I use Visual Studio to compile programs, and I bounce from one to another between Opera, Logos, MS Word.

I have noticed when Logos is indexing...that Logos does run a bit slower, but still acceptable to me. But maybe I am just slow myself. [8-|]

Does it seem to be taking an inordinate amount of time?

My Ryzen 5900x does the regular indexing in a shorter amount of time than it takes for the indexing to actually start. With your CPU it shouldn't take a terrible amount of time for you either (after the initial indexing, that is).

Yes, the indexing goes away when it's done. But I would suggest if you don't see performance problems, "out of memory" issues, etc., don't worry about how much memory Logos is using. Modern software will use more memory if more is available - more can be cached in memory, the operating system caches their data in memory vs. on disk, the OS isn't releasing memory that the app released as urgently/quickly because it doesn't need to and the characteristic of the app is that it's going to ask for memory again very quickly, etc. etc. etc. Memory management in modern operating systems is VERY COMPLEX and sophisticated.

If you want an example, your Logos is using 311MB on a 16GB PC (less than 2% of your memory, by the way). My laptop is running Verbum/Mac (very similar), but it has 64GB of memory - 4 times as much as your computer. My Verbum install right now uses:

Also, MS Word is using 265MB, Excel is using 400MB. If you run those, I bet your memory usage is less.

I guarantee you, if you added memory to your system, Logos memory use would increase - as would other programs. So don't sweat it (my .02)

I agree! All programs are written to use as much memory as they can. Including Logos. [8-|]

311 MB is not extensive (<2% of your Memory). You have to look elsewhere for your 95% memory usage.

It is difficult to understand what is going on from your screenshot. Restart Logos and provide another screenshot without indexing, and show the heading Apps under which Logos normally runs.

Indexing had just started all seems to be good ,

A gaming machine is a good choice. I saw the biggest performance improvement with logos running on Windows when I installed a high-end graphics card.
