I understand from a video lecture today that a majority of scholars (not sure who other than Brown or Martyn?) believe that the Gospel of John was written in response to the Johannine church's exile from the synagogue and the subsequent discourse between these two religious groups. I am looking to study John's view of Judaism. A protective and threatened Christian community seeks to reinvent its identity, estranged from the synagogue and its Jewish heritage and embroiled in heated discussion over matters important to both Jews and Christians. The image I see here is vivid and it depicts two sibling logistical religious communities. These were with their own identity difficulties. I asked Bard and Chat GPT this question. How does the synagogue expulsion theory in New Testament Studies for the Gospel of John's historica and sociall origins influence the text's anti-Jewish tone and what sources can be used in this analysis? Neither one was able to answer it.
I know J. Louis Martyn and Raymond Brown were the primary scholars but I want to see newer scholars and their take on the subject. Can Logos help me with this analysis? I would like to know about other related resources that will help me in my studies on this topi.
