Assigning Highlights to a notebook automatically

I do a lot of reading on my iPad and light to highlight passages.  Is there a way to get a highlight to default to a notebook?  It seems that when I highlight it makes a note that goes to no notebook and I have to go back and update the filing system.  Is there a way to have highlights go to a notebook as soon as I make them?
