Search for "exact phrase" yielded results interrupted by a punctuation mark ... but why?

I did a precise search for the term "task theology" and I got invalid results with a punctuation mark between "task" and "theology" - why is that? I want to see "task theology", not "task" near "theology".

I put my query in General because it's happening on both mobile and desktop:

The precise search has always ignored punctuation by design. If you wish to match a string of characters including punctuation you must use a Find.

Punctuation is ignored in Search. Try task BEFORE 2 CHARS theology, where 2 is the minimum separation between words (be sure to search Surface text).

Thank you! That was super helpful; the results narrowed down to just what I actually wanted. (And great tip on using Surface text because, without the limitation, the search was picking up footnotes with just the word "theology"! I learned something very useful today 😊)
