Logos 11--No to Mandatory Subscriptions

I have used Logos Bible software since 2010, and, amazingly, according to my order history, I have spent quite a sum on Logos products. Thank you for the work you have put in to make an excellent Bible software program, which I use for my own personal and academic study, writing, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.

I wanted to mention that I pretty much never purchase software that is a subscription. Having to pay every month for something feels like extortion to me. Maybe I should not feel that way, but I do. I have used both Logos and Accordance for years--and think both programs have their strengths--but if Logos is going to move to a subscription program, I am quite likely to shift to purchasing Accordance resources instead of Logos ones if push comes to shove. Right now when it is one or the other, I usually go with Logos.

Perhaps if you are set on moving to a subscription program for Logos 11, something like "you don't have to pay for a subscription if you buy a really big base package," say a Portfolio or at least Collectors, would be appreciated, or an option to pay once and be done with the subscription for one's lifetime for any version / upgrade of Logos would be possible. I would personally rather pay once for a lifetime subscription than pay every month for something. Of course, I am just one person; maybe other people really like to pay every month for things instead of paying once and being done with it.

That's my main reason fro writing now. Secondarily, I would also love to see Logos have a base package like this one:

and would also love for Logos to include the ability to sing/chant the Hebrew accents of Scripture and have the tools for doing that provided in, say:

that would make it easier to sing the text as in:

That would also help market Logos to the Jewish community. (I would also be interested in a tagged version of the Tremellius/Junius/Beza Latin Bible and a searchable edition of Islamic Hadith Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, etc. Accordance has a good searchable Arabic Quran.)

I agree. Everyone wants to migrate to a subscription model these days. Well, if I paid a monthly fee for every app and program I use, it would cost more than my mortgage. I can't afford to pay everyone a recurring monthly fee.

You can pay for 2 years of subscription up front at a price comparable to the feature upgrades we have had in the past and keep all new online features for life. If I were you, I would just do that and pretend there isn't a subscription.
Of course, the features you have already purchased are yours forever and Logos will continue to upgrade the software to run on new operating systems and to fix bugs for free. Online features, especially AI, cost a few cents every time you use them. Suppose a user does two or three of these a day. Let's call that 10 cents to Logos's venders. Over 30 years, that is $1000 added to the cost of your base package, on top of the current costs for offline feature upgrades, data sets, and books. Even modest ongoing costs are really hard to price into a perpetual model, and so the expectations modern customers have for AI and cloud support explain why most software companies are moving to subscriptions.

Ditto. I'm not subscribing either. I've been using Logos ever since version 2 of the software back in the late 1990s. I'm not happy at all with Faithlife with the direction they're going.

Thomas, the subscriptions are not mandatory. They are optional. Justin gave good advice. Just pay for the subscription annually and do not think of it as a subscription. After doing that for two years (the average length of a Logos version) you will keep all the new offline features that you have paid for over those two years.

I wonder what motivation FL will have to produce OFFLINE features over the next two years? What might those be? Anyone hazard a guess?
