A good question Ted and short answer is yes they do differ, I have the survey's in print along with the majority of the study guides. I only own one of the DIY Guides.

The Study Guides do incorporate some of the material form the Survey's but include lots of questions to enage you directly with the text. The DIY guides are very different again. There will of course be some overlap in the survey/background information contained in the DIY introduciton but beyond that the content is different.

Since the only DIY I own is on Romans, I'll do a comparison between that and the Romans Study Guide.

Romans Study Guide is divided up into 14 lessons. The first lesson is a general introduction to writings of Paul. The second lesson is a survey of Romans and overlaps with the survey. The remaining 12 lessons cover the text of Romans. This is a sample from Lesson 10 looking at Romans 9-11.

DIY Bible Studies Romans has a introduction in which includes a brief survey/background of Romans. It's main focus is on analysis of text and does this through 40 , 2 page units Below is the first page of UNIT 23 which covers Romans 9:1-13 for comparison.

After asking questions of the text myself I find them useful to take a look at these sort of resources and see what other things there are I might have missed in picking up. Its only after this sort of careful reading and observation of the text that I then want to start opening up commentaries.

I realize this is in response to an almost 2 yr. old post, but I have most of Irving L. Jensen's bible study material (don't have the charts because they are in his studies). I find them challenging and very useful to give a better understanding of the various Precept Ministries courses I lead. The only thing that is bad about them is a) they are out of print, b) not user friendly on the form they are in. If they could be either digitized with ability to fill in spaces or printed on 8 1/2" x 11" spiral booklet, that would be excellent.

3) Whether or not Logos DOES intend on digitizing these studies. They are fantastic, and since they are out of print, I believe many people would love them. They are, in my humble opinion, much better than the Precept Studies.
