audio every book

I listened to a book on Audible.com the other day and the introduction explained that the audio was created by a machine. I was shocked by how good the machine generated audio was.

That got me thinking...

What if every resource had a button that said, "create audio from this resource" and I could instantly create an audio that I could listen to while exercising or driving.

Wow. That would be a feature I could get excited about.

Yes very expensive! At least Eleven Labs is expensive and there’s a limit.

I listened to an AI-generated audiobook once. It was okay... unfortunately, the AI couldn't figure out that "Mt" meant "Matthew" and all of poor St. Matthew's gospel references became mountains. "Mount 7:13, enter through the narrow gate..." For other biblical citations, it simply read the letters, which was very distracting and a constant reminder that a robot was reading to me. "Emm Kay Five Ten" sounds more like a machine model registration number, not a biblical citation...

AI is almost there, just needs some tweaking (and, importantly, still seems to need human oversight/proofreading).

Not that human readers are perfect... some of the books I read are so esoteric in religious topic that the readers publishers hire don't know how to pronounce the vocabulary within that topic. What's even more embarrassing are mispronunciations of common French, Latin, and Greek words which authors frequently integrate. The AI reader made fewer mistakes with these than human readers of audiobooks I've listened to in recent years.

Are those AI voices much better than the current Read Aloud feature in the mobile apps? I use this feature in my car multiple times every week and I like it very much. But perhaps as a non-native speaker I am less critical of the standard English voices on my Samsung phone?

If you have the latest version of Word 365, you can also use the read along feature. The voice is very good and is able to read things quite nicely without sounding too robotic. It even handles bible names better than I expected.

Just copy the text and have it read along.

These are all great suggestions. They are helpful to me when I want to listen to a book while taking notes or doing research.
