When running a precise All search should the AI icon be removed?

If I specify some "search language" in an All search, a precise search is used

Should the AI symbol be removed in this case?

Hi Graham--Good question; leaving the sparkle indicator there is actually intentional. i.e. the indicator isn't meant to represent the type of search previously performed; rather, it indicates the default type of search we will attempt to perform if you execute a search. It's not until the search is submitted and we recognize the special syntax that we switch to precise, but at this point the default search type for your next search is still a smart search, so we leave the sparkle.

Anyway, your note has generated some internal discussion on this topic, so maybe there's more to come here. But for now, what you're observing is the intended behavior.

    Thanks,

Isn't this inconsistent with the behavior of the book search?

Books search is different because there's a precise vs smart picker in books search.

So let's say you're executing a smart books search, but your query includes special syntax; we'll switch to precise search, but unlike in all search, there's actually a setting we can toggle to 'precise', such that your next search, unless you change the setting back to 'smart', will be another precise search. That is, in books search, the icon on the left side of the input box (or lack thereof) doesn't represent the type of search that was just executed; it represents the type of search that will be executed, based on the smart/precise setting in the dropdown on the right side of the toolbar.

Does the difference make sense, or does it still seem inconsistent?

I knew the Logos-why but I don't buy it. I think both ought to show the search being used in the same manner. The icon meaning AI becomes meaningless and simply clutter if sometimes it doesn't mean AI.

Ah, got it. Feedback noted and shared internally.

    Thanks again both!
