First time opening the NRSVue via any of the 4 buttons opens with Insights open. Thereafter, it goes to retained state. Close and reopen program, again it opens with Insights open.
Also applies to bibles in the new Study layouts in "What would you like to do today?"
Close and reopen program, again it opens with Insights open.
I can't replicate this on Mac. I wonder if it's a Windows-only issue.
The state of the Insights sidebar is saved as part of the layout, whether that's one of your own custom layouts, or one that's built-in.
Does this mean that we not only have to close the insights sidebar for EVERY Bible, but also for EVERY Bible in EVERY layout? No wonder it feels like I'm constantly having to close it. And if I don't feel the need to save a layout, the insights sidebar just reverts back to opening again. I wish more and more every day that there was an option to NOT have it show by default.
What I'm trying to say is that if you save a layout with a resource sidebar open, then when you load that layout in the future, that sidebar will still be open. Likewise, if you save a layout with the resource sidebar closed, then when you load that layout in the future, that sidebar will be closed. That behavior has been around for a long time.

I don't know. But I do know it does not behave as advertised and that it becomes a very annoying nuisance. I understand wanting to have it default to open for new/minimal users. I would suggest that putting the ability to turn it off in the Program settings would hide it from new users "accidentally" turning it off and would stop the constant complaints in the forums over it erratic behavior.
That behavior has been around for a long time.
With one significant difference: All other resource sidebars do not open by default. The attempts to try to normalize the insight panel's intrusiveness feel to me like you're trying to dismiss the problem without acknowledging it.
I'm trying to discover whether the annoyance is due to (1) it's behaving as designed, but people don't like the design; or (2) it's misbehaving, and people don't like the bug, or (3) both.
I think it's probably (3), but I'm struggling to narrow down exactly what the bug is.
It is truly annoying, but we are also trying to show that it is buggy and a bad idea in the first place if you really believe the new "Discoverable" aspect of the dynamic toolbar.
