Uninstalling Logos 3

I have had Logos 4 since November and have only opened Logos 3 a couple of times to compare how something was done in it to the Logos 4. I have synced all of my notes, and work done in that long ago when that functionality came out.

My question is: Are there any issues I need to be aware of if I should simply uninstall Logos 3?

I know that they are seperate programs, but do they share the books/resources or are there two copies of everything that I had in Logos 3 - one for 3 and one for 4.

There are two copies of every resource, in separate folders.

The main reasons some people are still keeping the Logos 3 engine installed (even if they delete all the resource files to free up hard disk spaces) are:

They are still relying on one ore more of the "missing features" from L3 that haven't been implemented yet in L4
They may want to occasionally purchase an old CD-based resource that was built for Libronix (Logos 3) and needs Libronix in order to be installed (though you can always to wait and call Customer Service for them to unlock it for you). Many of the third party products tend to be of this nature.

So depending on your needs for the above two things, you can go ahead and safely uninstall Logos 3 now. There's no reason you have to keep it around, and it won't hurt your Logos 4 installation whatsoever to remove it. But the engine alone doesn't take up much disk space, so I might recommend just removing the resources and keeping L3 indefinitely, as long as it's still sometimes needed for installing old products.

Another reason to keep L3 is if you have some of really old LL2 resources that include lots of extra media, whether it be audio or video. I have asked during the pre-release Logos 4 beta testing but don't recall getting an adequate answer. Below is an example of the sort of resource I am talking about. This was produced by Logos SA. While they have said they will bring in video resources these older LLS2 style audio/video resources are something different to that.

Uninstalling Libronix will probably take the Libronixdls hyperlink protocol out of your registry, breaking those links on your machine. If you uninstall Libronix and have older documents/files with these links in them (Logos 4 now generates Logosres links) you will need to follow these instructions get them working again. http://wiki.logos.com/Hyperlinks#Problem.3a_Libronix_DLS_executes_the_protocol_instead_of_Logos_4

If you've uninstalled L3 successfully, you should delete the c:\Program Files\Libronix DLS\ folder, where (by default) all your resource and other user documents reside. Make sure you've copied over any notes, sentence diagrams, etc. before you do the uninstall, however.

If you want to keep L3, but make the L4 resource folder your main L3 resource folder, first point L3 to that folder as a resource folder. Then using look for duplicates and remove all the duplicates to your current L3 resource folder (noting that L3 will, by default, choose the current L3 resource folder as the default - you'll have to manually check each one to make sure the newer, L4 resources are being selected). Doing this ensures that you keep L3 resources that are not yet in L4 (including all PBB's).

BTW, your L3 resources are found here: C:\Program Files\Libronix DLS\Resources; or if you have a 64bit OS, here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Libronix DLS\Resources
