Sugg: Richard Lovelace's "Dynamics of Spiritual Life: An Evangelical Theology of Renewal"

Dynamics of Spiritual Life: An Evangelical Theology of Renewal by Richard F. Lovelace (IVP, 1979; 455pp. with index)
A bit dated, but still an excellent resource. "Richard Lovelace gives a history of spiritual renewals in light of biblical models. Isolating the elements of live orthodoxy, he proposes a comprehensive approach to renewal. Lovelace looks at such practical issues as renewal of the local congregation, the ways revivals go wrong, the evangelical thrust toward church unity, and Christian approaches to the arts and to social concern. A book for all concerned to revitalize the church."
RIchard F. Lovelace (Th.D., Princeton), is emeritus professor of church history at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary

On a serious note Rosie, I read the book and was much blessed by it. I am not sure how this book escaped my suggestion list. Good to know that what I forget to suggest you are there to remind and fill in the gap. Besides you do make very good suggestion and I find myself agreeing with them[:)].
Kind regards
Ted

Ditto. I read it for one of my seminary classes and it is very much underlined and highlighted and marked with post-it flags. It was the first book I'd ever read that explained so well the history of the relationship between evangelism and the social gospel, and the need for balance between the two. I found myself wanting to reference it yesterday as I was preparing the lead the worship service at church this morning when we're going to be focusing a bit more on the social gospel side of things due to Labor Day coming up. There's plenty of warrant in Scripture for treating workers justly.

I was just reading an article by Lovelace in JETS ("Evangelical Spirituality: A Church Historian’s Perspective") and it made me want to read this book.

I have not heard of this - but with both Ted and Rosie recommending it, I would buy it, no other questions asked.
