I had a temporary view of syntax templates for a single resource ... but after going to another resource, I could not longer get any syntax templates. Is it something that as I user I am missing or is it an application bug?
I see them listed in the query dropdown
and they are clickable / editable after selecting New Syntax Search

Yes - its the case for when there aren't any templates (of the type that are displayed using the left sidebar!).
Although in the case of the Clause Search it is probably more accurate as there really aren't any templates for that.
