As a free user, what am I losing?

Its not clear what features the free version of logos will not include and how much would I have to pay to have them. The faq in the main page mentions the legacy fallback license, but apparently it won't give access to Fuzzysearch and factbook tags? I did use fuzzysearch a bit and was one of the things I liked but it seems like I will never have access to that unless I am subscribed. I do not own any logos 10 base packages but just legacy ones.

    Welcome to the forum!

You're certainly right - it's not easy to determine which features the Free Version includes from the Logos website alone. I believe both features you mentioned are NOT included in the free version. You could open app.logos.com to check what's included without being signed in, but since you already own an older edition of Logos, you should have quite a few features not reflected in the free version.

Are you already familiar with your current feature set? I assume you've used Logos for a while and know what features you utilize. So, unsubscribe and see what disappears! If you find the features you rely on are no longer available, you could go back and get one of the subscriptions.

FWIW, it does look like Fuzzy Search and some of the Factbook tags will not be available if you didn't purchase the Full Feature Set.

Here's a long thread you can peruse for more detail. From that thread, Mark Barnes broke it down:

After many, many, requests, I'm finally able to give more details on what is likely to be included and excluded from the Legacy Fallback License (LFL). I'm sorry it's taken so long.

As a reminder, the LFL will be granted to subscribers after two years of continual subscription as a kind of "safety net" if you find you're no longer able to subscribe. That means you can be confident that you'll be able to use many Logos features long into the future. Perks and most books are not included in the LFL.

The LFL perk will only be given to people who already own a Logos base package or feature set or otherwise qualify for one of the discounted subscription tracks. It won't be offered to new customers.

Some features will be excluded from that license, primarily those that are cloud or AI-based, as they have high ongoing costs that are covered by the subscription payments. Many of you have asked for a list of those exclusions.

The first LFL will not be issued until October 2026, and many more features will be added between now and then. This list only deals with current features (including early access features). If possible, we'll try to identify whether future features will likely be eligible for the LFL when they are released.

So, likely exclusions of current and early access features from the Legacy Fallback License are:

    From Logos Premium and up:

    • Early access features:
      • Smart Search
      • Smart Synopsis
      • Help Center
      • Summarization (including in search results)
      • Bible Study Builder AI Questions
    • Older features:
      • Factbook Tags (apart from most tags in Bibles)
      • Community Tags
      • Fuzzy Bible Search
      • Insert Media in Notes
      • Bible Browser
      • Atlas Tool
      • Media Tool
      • Assorted Media

    From Logos Pro and up:

    • Early access features:
      • Sermon Assistant
    • Older features:
      • Print Library Catalog
      • Sermon Manager Import
      • Sermon Builder Popular Quotations Sidebar
      • Text Comparison Interlinears

    From Logos Max:

    • Older features:
      • Auto-Translation
      • Lemma in Passage
      • Morph Query Engine (this is different from Morph Search)
      • Online Manuscript Dataset

If you already own any of these features, their presence on this list does NOT mean they will be taken away from you. It just means that people without these features will likely not have them granted to them via LFL.

If you own Fuzzy Search right now, without a subscription, it will remain with you and you won't lose it.

If you don't own it, you'll get it by subscribing (it's part of Premium and up, i.e. all levels). The legacy fallback license would probably not apply to you if you own no base packages at all, and it only is relevant for a potential case that users subscribe for two years or more and then cancel their subscription - in this case you'd probably lose access to Fuzzy Search.

One alternative with a small time window to get it would probably be Verbum 10 Fundamentals, a small entry-level package for $50 which (if I'm correct, can't verify on the product page right now) includes Fuzzy Search and a number of other features plus a bunch of - mostly catholic - books. This will surely become unavailable in early November when the Verbum subscriptions and Verbum 2025 libraries go live.

I bought a legacy edition only this year when they were on sale and I believe they were just the libraries and didn't include any features. And it seems the free version on app.logos.com does have fuzzy bible search.

Also the free edition lists it under its feature. It seems likely I do not own the feature

Does purchasing the Verbum version unlock it for me in Logos? Also I was not able to see it as part of the features of the Fundamental version but I saw it as part of the starter edition.

Ah, I din't know that. But then (once you 'bought' that for $0.00) it should work on the desktop. And from my perspective, you then own it.

    Yes.

I think that I do not own it as on the Fuzzy Bible Search page, it says that I only have temporary access to the product and also on the new subscriptions page it shows that the feature is new to me:

I am guessing it is being changed to subscription only soon.

The free version of Logos has always been like a subscription in that you did not own the books and features, but only had access temporarily and when you looked at other options in the catalog, it would always show things that you had access through temporary licenses as "New to you" (later they added "you have temporary access to this book" at least for books). I have not seen any announcements about changes to the free version. Of course, they could change what is included at any time, but I don't think what you are seeing is any indication for that.
