All Search is a hot mess

The display of results from an All search is very and cluttered. It is frankly such a hot mess, that its utility is questionable.

It does not seem to ordered by number of hits. In the midst of the list of results from resources there are blocks of other sources, such as Factbook, My Documents and Questions and Answers.

This type of search might be useful if there were some options for organizing the search results. Here are some suggestions of what I would like to see:

Allow the same grouping options as for Books search.
Group by type of source (Downloaded, Cloud, Print, Personal, Factbook, etc.) and allow expanding or compressing results for a source type.
Make it clearer why a person would use All search instead of Books search. If it is supposed to be a Google search, it should provide at the top the results most likely to be useful to a casual searcher.

This was a matter of much debate in the beta testing. The all search is deliberately unordered with randomized cards as a considered design choice by Logos staff.

Arg! I thought the intention of the All search was to create an experience like a Web search with Google. I cannot find any sense to the arrangement of the results of an All search. It is like putting my search results in a blender.

I had quit using it entirely until the smart search version came out. The new routine for surfacing relevant answers often works for me; the precise search I simply avoid.

The "All" type of search clearly needs some sort of ranking and sorting of results, whether using AI or an algorithm. This type of analysis of search results is why Google took the lead in Web search engines.

I think Mark indicated that they are ranked by AI as being the most relevant answers ...but I don't have access to the data needed to verify (or understand) that ranking.

I have used it by accident, but otherwise don't. Yet, I have gotten good results there.
