Upgrading to Logos 4

To potential upgraders - Having resisted upgrading to Logos 4, I finally made the purchase and received the DVD last week. However, using a laptop with only a 448 MB Ram has proved insufficent to run the programme, it is not only slow but sticky!! Logos, in the 'minimum requirements' state a minimum Ram of 1 GB. Since I  failed to take this into account before upgrading, using Logos 4 will have to wait until I can purchase a new laptop!

I'm sorry to hear of your experience. I thought Logos made the minimum requirements clear in their sales material, but perhaps not sufficiently prominent. Hope you'll be able to get a new laptop before too long. Go for at least 2GB of RAM, even 4GB if you can manage it. Logos is much more responsive the more memory you have.

Thanks for advice Rosie. It's more the case that I hadn't realized my present laptop had so small a ram; I should have been more dilligent in checking.

Aaron, I know we could potentially tell you to buy all the latest technology and come out with a $10,000 machine that you had to have, but on top of Rosie's RAM suggestion I also would look into a multiple core processor if you can.  It severely cuts down the indexing/re-indexing time as I've noticed.

 

Then if there's any money left over go for the instant dinner making option!

You could always upgrade your RAM (which is pretty cheap to get 1 GB) until you save enough for a new computer.

Also, you can use most of your new books in Libronix too if you can't upgrade your hardware.

Thanks for advice.  Upgraded the ram to 1GB which has improved the performance of my laptop but it still won't run Logos 4!

It runs slowly or won't run at all?

I think even at 1 GB Logos 4 can be installed and run very slowly.
