Should there be a reduction in the number of Logos Forums

There has been some discussion about the number of Logos Community Forums that currently exist.

If they were to be reduced in number, or changed in some way, what do you think that would look like?

Earlier this month there was a discussion about the inclusion of a ‘New User’ forum, and there are a forum or two that could likely be removed, The Logos Mobile App Beta (Old) for example.

Also I see people sometimes say they can’t find where they should make their post.

It struck me that people might have some useful ideas that could inform Logos in the development of the new forums.

If the new forums allow the option to choose which forums a user views and does not view - that would go a long way in clearing the clutter for many.

Exactly - a few forums that I use allow that function, so "my" Forums Home would look different than yours based on which I toggle to view and not view.... For example - those of us who don't speak or read languages foreign to us would be able to just view what we understand, as well as not have "our" Forums view cluttered with things we don't care to follow.

Interesting discussion. My question to you both is what is most important to you the forum or the topic being discussed? I will respond to my own question and look forward to your responses.

For me topic is most important. Right now I'm following 2 topics that may change as the evening progresses. The forum is of less importance for me.

Now for MVP's I see a great upside on limiting the number of forums and having those forums be as specific as possible. For me not so much. So, what I am saying is the needs of users who are likely to respond to questions and issues raised are different from those less likely to be interacting with the forums on that level.

AOL Forums had the ability to make an unwanted user invisible 🫥 It didn’t affect his posts or interactions with others, you just couldn’t see that particular user. I’m talking way back in 2001-2004. That’s why I’ve always wondered how old these forums are because they’re so limited!

I would be hesitant to have a 'New User' forum - It is noticeable how many, myself included, find the answer to a 'New User's' question opens up possibilities that are new to me.

I do think that there are too many forums but I don't underestimate the value of specific language forums - auto translation is not quite refined enough at present.

For me it would be

Desktop Engine and Desktop Engine Beta

Resources / Features

Original Languages technical

Proclaim / Sermon Builder

iOS and Android (until such time as they are close enough to be merged)

plus any denominational tracks that those aiming for the high wall district of heaven deem necessary.

I like the General forum, so I get to see everything.

I agree that (for me) topic is more important than the forum. Would like to see fewer forums and put the onus on the author to create a topic that clearly describes the content.

Another option that just occurred to me (and I’m not convinced of its merit myself) is to continue a large number of forums but have the forum list sorted by which has the most recent post). As is the case now with topics, I can choose to skip forums or mark them ”Read”. Or sorted by which forums have the most new posts in the past week or month. As I noted, not sold on these ideas myself but throwing them out there to stir the pot. 😉

Having helped beta test the new forums, it looks like there will be a huge reduction in the number of them.

The consensus leans towards having fewer, more targeted forums, improved filtering options, and the prioritization of clear topic categorization over numerous forum categories.

The thoughts above seem to forget Proclaim which I believe deserves a forum. It also forgets the miscellaneous sites like reftagger, wiki, etc. But it also ignores the bane of my existence -- Please create a special forum for those who wish to tell Logos how to run their business or price their products. And please have a clear forum/tag in which to report resource problems ... mixing them randomly with the software doesn't work.

I am not so much interested in the number of forums, or topics, as much as the structure of the forums and the ability to locate what you seek.

This forum has a visual architecture that makes it relatively easy to find where things should be. The fly in that ointment is you cannot control where people end up posting things. As you point out if you look at any lengthier thread the focus of the discussion sways back and forth radically.

So I think a community forum would benefit from two things, a good visual structure so you can find your way about, and a nuanced search so you can find what you look for more easily.

I knew people had opinions on the number of forums, and how that relates to topic/subject, so I wanted to hear what they had to say and let Logos hear it too.

It would be really useful if MVPs could add tags to other users' posts to help categorize them. It might also be helpful if there were a tag users could not add on their own but MVPs could like "Staff Attention Needed" (I say MVPs only because everyone thinks their post needs staff attention, but MVPs could be trusted to bring certain things to their attention without cluttering it up to the point of uselessness).

I think the this tag “needs attention” is a good idea. Not sure if the MVP’s have the personal time to tag threads in general though.
