Search yields too many books I don't own

I am sure this was brought up before in the forums, but I cannot find the post. When I do a search, the majority of hits seem to be resources I do not own. Intersperced are resources I do own. I have 28,697 resources. The many hits of resources I do not own make searching almost useless. It would be better to have the ability to see unowned resources at the end of the list or a button to see what is available that I do not own. But mixing it into the search results does not speed up searches. Rather, it slows it down to almost uselessness.

Is this standard or is there a way to toggle the results to see only resources owned?

It sounds like you might be doing an ALL search, which access both resources you own and do not own. If you use BOOKS search it will only search the resources you own

Yes, it was and Logos implemented a solution, a reminder to switch to a book search.

When a Smart All search returns 4 or more locked results within the top 10 results, a banner will now appear, to let you know that you could switch to a Books search if you only want to include results from your own library.

I thought the whole point of paying for a subscription is to have access to all the other books we don't own. Pretty much you have to buy more book and packages to get the info that is being provided.

So, what is the point of the "All" search? Well, there is usefullness, but only a few results are resources in my library. Are you saying that these resources in my library would show up in the book search also? And if that is true, then the purpose of "All" search is to learn about resources I do not own that may be useful in research?

The All search searches much more than books, putting the results in cards interspersed among the books.

I saw one card and it was factbook. If I want to use factbook, why would I not simply use factbook?

You say it searches more than books. You mean it will search factbook, morph, media, maps, docs etc? Why can't FL let us search all except bookstore?

An "all" search on Isaiah 7 yielded better results. I did not see many books I did not own. And I saw more cards. An "all" search for "Autism" yields mostly locked resources.

A search for "Peter" produced too many locked resources so as to make the "all" search difficult

Unless we are given the option to turn off "bookstore", this ends up being almost useless.

I would like to suggest to FL that "bookstore" be altogether a separate search. It is a great idea. But I think it should be its own search and not mixed into the resources in the library as it slows down study.

"All search" will be to those who are doing genuine research for an academic paper. They can identify books in their library that may be of value to them in authoring their paper. Having identified such a book, they can see if it is available in their local library or can access it via an inter-library loan. To assist in further researching that book they could add it to their print library and run further searches. And of course, if they really want to add it to their Logos library, they have the option of purchasing it, but nobody is forcing them to do so.

It's good ,but it tempts to buy more books. At the same time it is another system of Faithlife advertising their resources. As a business doing like that is not bad.

I think a lot of people would prefer to see these separate, as I understand Logos argument is that they list them in order of significance regardless of whether you own them or not. So, if it is near the top of the list and you locked it is a resource they are suggesting is going to be of more value than a locked book towards the end of the list.

I can see value in both sorting options and personally I'm ok with what we do have but not against separating them out either.

This is true but it is also very useful when you don't know how to form a precise search. I never used the precise All search - I have a phobic response to unordered responses. I find the AI assisted search quite useful for finding the right words to use in Logos as Logos speaks the protestant-evangelical dialect of theology and I speak the ACELO dialect.
