Bug: 4.1RC2 - Copy Bible Verses Limitation of Range Selected

I was trying to copy the book of Mark, Bible Text only to the clipboard using NIV, but CBV will not allow the whole book to be entered.  Whenever you do it overrides the entry to simply the first 4 chapters of Mark. Didn't matter whether I entered Mark, Mark 1-16 or Mark 1:1-16:20.  It still over wrote what I wanted to do with what it decided what I should do instead.

I tried entering Mark 2-15 just to see what would happen, and it overwrote it with Mark 2-5, once again allowing only 4 chapters to be selected.  Following screencast demonstrates the issue:

This has been noted before with Melissa indicating that this is working as intended.

    Andrew,

perhaps Logos is trying to follow the Copyright restrictions as stated in the NIV.

The Holy Bible, New International Version®
    Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984 by International Bible Society

The NIV text may be quoted in any form (written, visual, electronic or audio), up to and inclusive of one thousand (1,000) verses without express written permission of the publisher, providing the verses quoted do not amount to a complete book of the Bible nor do the verses quoted account for 50 percent or more of the total text of the work in which they are quoted.

The Holy Bible : New International Version. 1996 (electronic ed.). Grand Rapids: Zondervan.

So this would account for the whole book of Mark. Perhaps there is another rule they are following when they do the 4 chapter limiting (or is a general rule which works within multiple resources).

Ok, I try searching forums and couldn't find anything on it.      Do you know what thread it was previously mentioned in MJ ?  I ask because  Wiki page on Copy Bible Verses which I
checked before posting also gives the impression that you can enter a whole
book in CBV when you look at the chart it provides on the ways in which a bible reference can be entered.

EDIT Note: Logos Help File should also state this limitation to avoid confusion. Can you please get this looked at Melissa.

Andrew, I am probably putting my foot in my mouth again, but you can do it by using cut and paste from the book into MS Word.  I just did it.

    1. Highlight entire book
    2. Right Click
    3. Choose "Copy"
    4. Paste into word - or whatever.  Not sure why, but formatting is lost if you paste directly into OneNote - but going from Word to OneNote brings the formatting over into OneNote.

I do agree, that the four chapter limit should be documented somewhere.  And now that I have said it out loud, I hope they do not impose it within the copy and paste mechanism.

    Blessings,
    Floyd

    Andrew,

it looks like the 4 chapter thing (which really isn't 4 chapter
limit, see chart) is probably related to the number of characters that
    CBV buffer can handle.

    ESV NIV
    Book/Range
Chap Cnt Char Cnt Char Cnt
    Gen 1-6 50 14871 14531
    Ex 1-6 40

    Lev 1-7 27

    Num 1-3 36

    Deut 1-4 34

    Judges 1-5 21

    Ruth 1-4 4

    Psalms 1-16 150
    12461
    Isaiah 1-8 66

    Matt 1-6 28 16020

    Mark 1-4 16 12790

    Luke 1-3 24

(the left column shows what CBV limits the chapter range to for that book when starting with ch 1 and ending with last chap)

Notice that the chapter count varies with book.
Also notice that it is not a percentage of the number of chapters for a book.

Also notice that the book of Ruth is all the chapters (technically this would violate Copyright rule)
If you view the Bible's info (i with a circle around it) you can see the quoting rule for that book.

[:-*] I won't tell anyone else Floyd.  We'll keep that to ourselves.  Just you and me ok :)

Was trying CBV because I just wanted text without verse numbers or chapters to distract. I will try what you suggest next time.

    Thanks Steve, makes sense.
