"Smart Tab Opening" seems to have vanished from L4. Please fix this!
Some time ago there was a post about L4 trying to cluster like resources together when they were opened. There are two problems in this area:
1. L4 does not remember where a resource was last opened, but insists in placing it in a location of its own choosing, which is often unrelated to the existing tabs in that location, and ignores much more similar resources elsewhere.
e.g. I want my lexicons to appear in the lower RHS, so I open DBL Heb and drag it from the top left, where it appears initially, down to the bottom right. After closing, and opening DBL Heb again, it reverts to the top left.
2. The "Cluster with Like Resources" thing seems broken too. I open TWOT Heb lexicon in the lower right, and then open DBL, but DBL appears in the top left again.
I haven't tried with other resources, but this is very annoying. Can L4 not at least remember where a resource was last placed?

Like yourself I find its behaviour quite capricious - its reliability is no better than 50-50 where I have 2 tiles/windows of resource tabs. Remembering where (tile) a resource was last opened would improve its behaviour.

I agree.
I find it generally places new windows where I would least like to have them (like in a narrow window I'm using for tools).

It's a problem. My strategy for dealing with this problem is "Drag, don't click". Seriously, I never rely on Logos for positioning any of my resources any more, I just drag them to where I want them to be (which is a great feature, anyone tried to rearrange windows in L3 should know what I mean).
This is my personal Faithlife account. On 1 March 2022, I started working for Faithlife, and have a new 'official' user account. Posts on this account shouldn't be taken as official Faithlife views!

Could I suggest a Preferences option to select a "new window" behaviour from:
1. Place resource in last known location (or nearest to it if layout has changed)
2. Attempt to group with similar resources
3. Place in a new tab inside the currently selected tab group.
4. Let Logos pick somewhere using its own "secret sauce" algorithm (current behaviour).Thanks

RichardI like this idea. My biggest annoyance with the "smart tab opening" algorithm now is that when I have a floating window (which I do all the time -- the Library) and the rest of my layout is in one big tile (which occasionally happens), if I open a new resource it always goes into the floating window as a new tab there, which is never where I want it. I want it added to the main layout. I can force it by dragging the resource name from the command bar dropdown onto the layout somewhere, but I wish this were the default behavior.
