Stumped Setting up a collection on 1 John

Hi,
I am trying to set up a collection of commentaries on 1 John, but am having trouble excluding the ones on John and the other epistles and even Revelation. If someone might know of a way, this is how I've started, but it has gotten complicated to exclude the others.
type:"bible commentary" AND title:"john"
Thanks for the help!
Blessings,
Philana

"1 John","Epistles of John" works pretty well for me. I'd have to manually exclude one commentary this way. (This criteria locate the resources primarily through their Subject listing, although I didn't have to specify that).

I use the following two collections. They (and many others) are on the wiki, if you're interested. If you follow the link in my signature, there's also a couple of tutorial videos on collections which might help for the future:
Commentaries on John’s Gospel- Library Size: 4,032
- Collection Size: 47
- Rule: type:commentary AND (title:john OR
subject:john) ANDNOT (subject:”1 John” OR subject:”2 John” OR subject:”3
John” OR subject:”John, 1st” OR subject:”John, 2nd” OR subject:”John,
3rd” OR subject:revelation OR subject:”epistles of john”) - Manually Included Items: none
- Manually Excluded Items: none
Commentaries on John’s Letters- Library Size: 4,032
- Collection Size: 30
- Rule: type:commentary AND (title:john OR
subject:john) ANDNOT (subject:revelation) - Manually Included Items: none
- Manually Excluded Items: {Commentaries on John’s
Gospel}

Adding type:commentary AND ("1 John","Epistles of John") would be better still.
But that leaves out the following in my library:
- Calvin's, Commentaries on the Catholic Epistles
- Lange's 1,2,3 John
- ICC Commentary on the Johannine Epistles
- Lenski's The Interpretation of the Epistles of St. Peter, St. John and St. Jude
- Luther's Works Vol 30
- NIV Application Commentary: Letters of John
- Word Biblical Commentary Vol 51
Sorting out the gospel of John from the Epistles of John is probably just about the hardest collection to create, so they don't normally need to be as complicated as the one I suggest above.

The best way to identify commentaries for a passage is the Commentaries section of the Passage Guide.
That said, I often find the best way to create collections is to use the "subject" metadata:
subject:"epistles of john"
That will get you a decent list, but some books aren't tagged that way, so you'll have to expand it. After looking at the subject field of books in the library that weren't included, I discovered some alternate subject tagging:
subject:("epistles of john","john, 1st","john, 2nd","john, 3rd")
This syntax means include any resource that has in its subject field any of the items in the comma-separated list in the parenthesis. This rule seems to get all of my relevant commentaries.
In my library, that previous rule only included commentaries, but you can add the "type" limitation if you want:
type:"bible commentary" AND subject:("epistles of john","john, 1st","john, 2nd","john, 3rd")

Thank you all for your help, I used the collections rules for both the John's Letters and the Gospel of John, it helped so much! I love the new collections feature (because if I add more books I don't have to add it to the collection). Its just getting the hang of it.
