4.1RC2 Indexer Bug: Old .mstidx files are not removed when a resource is upgraded

I think the tile is self-explanatory. My %localappdata%\Logos4\Data\{random}\ResourceManager\logos is stuffed full of indexes to out-of-date resources. They should be deleted when the newer file is created. I have 1,693 unnecessary files in this folder, which I estimate is costing me 352Mb of disk space.

.mstidx files are important index files. There's one for each of your resources.

When a resource is updated a new .mstidx file is created, but the old one isn't deleted. So you can delete duplicates - so long as you delete the oldest duplicate.* I originally intended to do that, so started selecting them all, but it quickly became tedious and I gave up. Manually selecting 1,693 files out of over 5,000 is not worth even 350Mb.

*To identify the oldest duplicate, note that the filenames are made up of two halves. LLS_LOGOS_RESOURCE_ID_DATE_T_TIME_Z.mstidx - files with the same resource ID but with a different date/timestamp are duplicates. The earlier timestamp ones can be deleted.

This issue appears to have been fixed in one of the 4.3 Betas, but a release note may not have been written. I just tested this on my system and confirmed that the new file replaced the old one. Are the duplicates you're seeing new ones or old ones? The ones prior to the fix would have to be manually deleted.

Thanks, that's good news. I'll wipe my index and see if the duplicates return when resources are updated in the future.

I really think that Logos should write the routine to remove the duplicates - a sort of "you made the mess, you clean it up" attitude. Why? Because many of your users are not computer savvy and will be afraid to find and identify the duplicates ... and these are the same people who may have old machines with limited space and need to recover the space.

Because many of your users are not computer savvy and will be afraid to find and identify the duplicates ... and these are the same people who may have old machines with limited space and need to recover the space.
