Maps

A couple of questions:

1) When I right click on a place name in a Bible, I don't see a link to a map set. Is this normal?

2) Normally if you click on the + sign a new tab will open and offer choices of resources that are similar to the resource in the tab that is selected. So if the selected tab is a Bible dictionary, other Bible dictionaries will appear as choices for the new tab. So I had the Logos Bible Maps open in a tab and clicked on the + sign and got three choices, none of which had anything to do with maps. I do have several map/atlas resources in my prioritized library list. Any ideas as to why this happened?

1) After right-clicking on the place name, make sure you select the "Place" tab on the right side of the pop-up menu. Then you will see Biblical Places on the left side. Choose that and it will take you to a map showing the place you right clicked on.

2) I almost never view maps from a resource; I use Biblical Places. However when I do open a map resource, such as Logos Deluxe Map Set, and then click on the + sign, the items displayed appear to be "similar" resources, that is media resources (including hymnals, image libraries, etc.). The right column which usually shows up when you click the + sign with parallel resources does not appear. Maybe that isn't implemented for media resources. I don't know.

I get inconsistent results.

When I open Nelson's Map Collection and use the plus sign I get:

This isn't bad.

When I open The Logos Deluxe Map Set and hit the plus sign I get:

These are image collections, not maps.

I can appreciate that visuals like maps with sometimes the same area depicted at different times of in different ways could be very hard to inter-link. Perhaps this is the problem, or perhaps it is something Logos can give some more attention to.

Biblical Places seems to do a pretty good job finding places. Perhaps Logos prefers we use that tool rather than working through maps using the plus sign.

Not quite the issue but I frequently forget and maybe helpful for others . . . NET has a really nice set of satellite maps of Palestine, complete with a lookup guide. I usually keep NET open for its notes, and then just use the vertical scroller to quickly move to the maps at the bottom and then back.

The Net Bible First Edition Notes ( The Net Study Bible Notes, which are separate from the Net Bible). Thanks for the tip Denise. I moved the notes onto a 22 inch monitor and scrolled through the maps and they are nice.

No question, Biblical Places is the best way to look up place information. You'll find all the Logos maps for that place, along with some maps from other resources, as well as other information. Furthermore, the data has been carefully vetted and disambiguated: right-click on Beer in Jdg 9.21 and follow the link, and you'll get the page for Beeroth, which is different from the Beer mentioned in Nu 21.16.
