Duplicated Entries in Note File

I'm not sure when it happened (perhaps Logos could by looking at the file history) but one of my note files (entitled "General Notes") seems to have two of every single entry in it. This had to have happened in recent history as today is the first time I've noticed it. i haven't exhaustively looked at all my note files but from the ones I have looked at this seems to be the only affected file.

Anybody else have this problem?

Can Logos figure out when this happened (perhaps it was a syncing bug) and how to keep it from happening in the future?

    Jacob,

I looked through some of my note files at random and could not find any duplications. Was that your old "General Notes" file from L3? If so I wonder if it has something to do with importing?

No my imported "General Notes" file is fine. This is a Logos4 note file and has been such since the beginning. It seems more like a sync issue to me.

Jacob ~ There is an open case in development on this issue. The problem can occur if sync isn't allowed to finish, which can cause duplicates if any note is added or removed on two separate machines. We are looking into another way to sync notes that would prevent the problem.

Thanks, Melissa. Please let us know when it ets fixed.

In the meantime I guess I'll have to manually go in and delete the duplicates.

I have the same problem - multiplied. Wonder if it is possibly associated with "sort" - I had 6 duplicates for every note, they were not in canonical order so i "sorted," then I had 9 of the ones i could see! There may be no connection, but i tried sorting again just to test it, and now I have 12 of many of them, 6 of some others. Haven't looked at all of them, but they seem to be multiplying like a plague of bugs in a potato patch!!

I'm perplexed and dismayed - because I have come to depend heavily on these notes. As far as i can see, only one file is affected, but it is my principal one--has hundreds of entries.

Would appreciate any suggestions for a "fix." Rebuilding and relinking the file will take many, many hours, but i'm ready to begin... if i can be sure it won't happen right over again.

I haven't been able to reproduce the duplication problem with 'sort', but I did reproduce the problem with the same note file open on two computers. It might be easiest to delete the duplicate notes rather than recreate your note document. Then just be sure you do not have the note document open on two computers at the same time.

I have manually erased my duplicate notes. It seems that this should be a scenario that you would expect to commonly find and the syncing system should anticipate it and deal with it appropriately.

How easy (and common) would it be to be working on a note file at home and leave (forgetting to close Logos) and go into the office and pick right up where you left off. If there are instances where this will create duplicates of every entry in a note file, that is most certainly a bug, right?

This is why development is looking into a different sync method for notes.

Great! I hope this will apply to clippings too, so individual clipping entries are synced, rather than entire files.

I have anywhere from five to 15 or more duplications in my note files. I now have over 12,000 items that Logos is trying to sync.  The vast majority of these were generated by Logos itself. The program never stops synching. I have spent two full day trying to delete duplicated notes only to have Logos put them back in. It was so time consuming that I only made it from Matt 1 to Luke 3:21 (system stops and spins for each deletion). Logos must fix this or I cannot use the program. It crashes every time I try to do anything because it's synching. I require the program in my classes and use it every day. This is a show stopper for me.

    David, welcome to the forums

Hold down the Ctrl key at the same time as you open L4 and select Work Offline. When complete restart L4 normally.

If you are not running a Beta version please report issues in the Logos4 Forum.

    David,

You can also work offline by setting the option "use internet" to "no."

The problem with this option is that you will not get updates.

For a specific task it is better to be completely offline, though.
