Hi
I would like to use the spell check as is described on the wiki page (http://wiki.logos.com/Using_the_Forum)
I followed the instructions below but could not see the feature I want.
Am I doing anything wrong?
I see the spell check logo on the screen capture but I don't have it on my edit box. I use a spell checker that's baked in to Firefox.
Are you using Firefox or another browser other than Internet Explorer? For some reason, it shows up in IE but not Firefox, I'm not sure about the other browsers, but I know that this is a problem for Firefox. I'm not technical enough to tell you why though.
Yes Kevin, that's what I mean. This sreen capture is from the wiki page. It is not mine. [:)]. I would like to have it on my edit box too.
English is not my native language. It is very important to me. [:(]
I can verify your results. I followed the instructions and got everything but spell checker.
Yes, you are correct, Internet Explorer 8 shows the Spell checker. Notice that IE did not mark the misspelled word doctine (should be doctrine).
FireFox does not show a Spell checker, but like Kevin said, the spell checker is built in. Notice the red wavy line under the misspelled word doctine (should be doctrine). So FIreFox is doing the spell checking. Which browser are you using? [i will make a note in the wiki page]
As with Firefox, the spell checker icon does not show up with either Opera or Chrome. However, both underline misspelled words typed in a forum entry, Right clicking on the underlined word will show possible correct spellings. I do not have Firefox, so I cannot verify similar behavior in that environment.
Thanks Floyd! i will update the wiki again.
You are correct, FireFox does offer corrections when you right click on the misspelled word.
Safari for Mac also has the spell check built into the program.

I tried the spell checker in IE and found that it is also an external program. Here is the web page that is opened when choosing the spell checker:
Apparently the spell checker is not a function of the forum, but of the browser. Perhaps IE does not have a built-in spell checker so the forum authors provided pointer to one that could be installed as an IE add-on.
I'm using safari for mac.
But now that you said that it has a spell check built in I found out that this feature was set up to other language. Now, I'm trying to configure it to english.
At least I can use a spell checker even if the forum doesn't provide one.
Thanks.
Romulo
Until a few weeks ago my computer ran 10.4 and (I think) Safari 4. Under that all my spell checking was done with a Swedish dictionary, which was rather annoying considering how much time I spend on American sites. Pretty much every single English word I wrote got underlined...
Then I bought a new computer with 10.6 and Safari 5 (in order to be able to buy Logos), and now the computer knows by itself if I'm on a Swedish- or an English-speaking website, and the spell checker adjusts accordingly. It's wonderful!
The thing is, that, though I never found the time to check it out for sure, I believe that the only way to get English spell checking under the older system is to set the default interface to English, which you probably don't want. To get the automatic switch I think you have to run Safari 5, which means you have to run 10.6 (or possibly 10.5?).
And if you do run Safari 5 this ought to work by default, as it did for me. The only thing I can think of is to go to System Preferences and check the one which I think is called 'International' in English (the one in the first row having to do with languages), and make sure that you have English in the list, after your own language. (Personally, I have both English, British English and US English, in that order. I guess that depends on what kind of English you prefer to read and write.)
If that does not work, someone with a more intimate knowledge of Macs will have to step in.
Thanks Fgh,
After your comment I went to system preference and change the text configuration for orthography to "automatic". Until now it is working fine. I am already writing this post with the english spell checker. Now the system (not safari) is checking not only the orthography but the basic grammar too.
Thanks again for your post. It was very useful.
By the way, my default system language is portuguese. I am using Mac OSX 10.6.4 and safari 5.0.2.
Glad I could be of help!
