Whom Might We Rescue? (From Gathering Interest on Pre-Pub)

I've come to realize I pre-order many pre-pubs at the recommendation of another poster in the forums.

This thread is purposed around generating interest in collections or works of famous theologians of the past featured on the gathering interest section of the pre-pub page

My top 5 are...

1.) James Hope Moulton Greek Studies Collection (5 Vols.)

2.) J. C. Ryle Collection (18 Vols.)

3.) The Works of Robert Murray McCheyne (3 Vols.)

4.) Archibald Alexander Collection (20 Vols.)

5.) Morris Jastrow Near Eastern Studies Collection (5 Vols.)

Interestingly enough this group rounds out every collection with 50% interest gathered or better (on my list at least [:)] ).

1.) The Moulton collection fits perfectly with his famous Vocabulary of the Greek New Testament. We find Moulton's passion for the Greek language affords us with insight on so many other disciplines and interests. Sadly Moulton's life was cut short as he died when the ship he was traveling on was torpedoed during the first World War.

2.) J.C. Ryle was a writing machine including over 1,000 pages of exposition on the Gospels. Other works touch on Christian discipline an interesting compilation of hymns.

3.) After reading a biography on McCheyne produced by a former professor, I was fascinated by McCheyne's ability to draw overflowing crowds to once empty churches as he traveled from town to town in Scotland and beyond. His expository sermons were his strength.

4.) This collection holds an immense wealth of work on theological issues. So much depth! Alexander was the mentor of Charles Hodge, famous for his Systematic Theology

5.) Morris Jastrow's Near Eastern Studies collection holds particular info on culture and history around Hebrew religion from an archaeological standpoint. There's also work on the tension between Jews and Palestinians of his time and where turn of the century fueds might lead. Interesting viewpoint of palestine pre 1940's.

In order of how far along they are, not my precedence (mine, too, are all over 50% -- would love to see them get further along):

The Works of George Whitefield (13 Vols.) - extremely important preacher and evangelist; key influencer on the Great Awakening, along with John Wesley; no particular title in the collection jumped out at me, and if I were going to read a biography of him I'd probably prefer to read a more recent one, but I figured he's such a big name in the history of evangelicalism that I ought to have this.

William Mitchell Ramsay Collection (16 Vols.) - I've been wanting his The Letters to the Seven Churches of Asia for some time; and when I saw that several of the other titles in this collection look interesting too, I jumped at it.

Collected Works of John Henry Newman (31 Vols.) - probably the most famous convert to Catholicism of all time, he became a Cardinal; his Apologia Pro Vita Sua is a classic autobiography that I've been wanting to read for some time, but the rest of the collection looks very important, too.

The Works of Richard Sibbes (7 Vols.) - of all the many collections of Puritan theologians that Logos has in pre-pub, he is the most important as far as I can tell (I think he's the only one I've actually heard of who is still "Gaining Interest"); I took a course on the Puritans with J.I. Packer at Regent College, and he was on Packer's short list of influential Puritan authors we should become familiar with (I'm pretty sure most if not all of the rest are already published or "Under Development").

Philip Schaff Collection (21 Vols.) - a master historian of Christianity; I know him mostly as the author of the monumental work The Creeds of Christendom, but many of the other titles in the collection looked good, too.

Rosie, you want to know the amazing thing to me about guys like Schaff? He did all that work and probably didn't even have a type writer, much less MS Word on a laptop with Logos.

CBD used to have a Church History set that was like 40 something volumes or more, of which Schaff edited. I THINK it's the same as our Church History collection here in Logos.

The man was a working mule for Christians.

The only pre-pub I'd really like to push would be the Catholic Theology and Dogma Collection. The rest on my list can feel free to linger for a while.

Welwyn Commentary Series (49 Vols.) | Product - Boxed (Pre-Pub)

Would be fantastic, similar to the NIV Application Commentary, but some people say more in-depth, and much cheaper. It like the NAC is not yet complete, but I would love to own this set. From what i have read it seems to be something that most all Christians could use profitably for their devotions and sermon prep.
