I really love the thought of being able to get the Welwyn Commentary Series, it seems to be the ideal thing. But seeing that there is a chance that the series this series will never be produced I wanted to find out what people recommend as an alternative. I do have the "Be Series" but it's not quite what I want. The Welwyn Commentary Series is a good series I would encourage people to not only look at Logos pre publication site but to get a better feel if they go to Christian Book Distributors people can read more sample pages to see why I am excited about this work... But like I said I would be interested to hear about other people's suggestions too.

The NIV Application Commentary series is quite good. There are only 28 volumes (NT is covered with 20, but OT is pretty sparse with only 8 and there's not yet a complete bundle for the whole thing; I expect that to be coming once the whole set is published; there are some print volumes that are not in digital form yet, and a few that aren't even published in print yet) so it's not as complete as Welwyn. But some of the volumes are by some pretty highly regarded authors, at least among the circles I travel in: Tremper Longman, Iain Provan, Darrell Bock, Craig Blomberg, Douglas Moo, Ajith Fernando, Craig Keener. I haven't used it enough to be able to tell you which volumes are truly ahead of the pack in terms of quality, but many of them get high user ratings on Amazon.com, where you can see sample pages of a number of them. Here's a list (slightly outdated) of the volumes release thus far by NIV and the remaining forthcoming volumes: http://parablemania.ektopos.com/archives/2006/04/niv_application.html; the only ones still left to be published are Ezra-Nehemiah, Job, and Psalms 73-150.
