Not directly. You could perhaps use a Passage List or the Text Comparison tool to accomplish this, however.

Opening a resource in Logos 4 is like opening a book. You can navigate to different spots in the book, but you're still in the book, and we're going to show you the context in which any portion of that book appears.

I have Accordance and I have been using Logos since it has been on the Mac (starting with Libronix 1 for Mac). To my understanding, this is normal Logos behavior.

Hey folks... When I search for a specific set of verses... say for example Matt 7:1-4, it displays Matt 7:1-4 but it also shows the rest of the text as well.

Is there a way to make it display ONLY the verses I'm calling for? Accordance would only show me what I'm asking for and I kinda liked that. (Im not necessarily comparing the two - its just what I'm used to).

Is this normal behavior in Logos 4 Mac or is there a display setting?

This is an Accordance 'feature'. I kind of liked that feature as well. Type in a word and all your results are in the Bible text window. Type in Matthew and that is all that shows up. But I found that the way Logos does this is neither better nor worse, just different.

In Logos, search for a word and the results are highlighted in the Bible text. Want to go to the next hit? Just change the next/previous arrows to 'search result' and there you go. Aside from limiting the context, with a clean display of the results, there isn't a lot of benefit to the Accordance way. If you just want to be able to read through your hits as full text without the context, save as a Passage List.

If you really only want to see a portion of scripture, you could use the text comparison tool linked to your main bible. Type in John 3, and that is what will show up and nothing else.

Is there no way to do multiple verse searches? For example... Matt 4:1; john 1:1; Mark 3:2 and have them show up?

While I admit to being biased, I think that such a conclusion may be a bit premature.

Perhaps rather than focusing on individual features that you're used to having, you could explain in more general terms what you're studying? Others may be able to contribute ideas as to how Logos 4 can be used more effectively to accomplish your goals.

Don't get flustered: Logos offers a money back guarantee. Try to get accustomed to the Logos way of doing things for a while, and if you don't like it, return it.

But remember you can create a Passage List if you want to collect multiple separate passages in a window. The Copy Bible Verses window can be used this display multiple passages in a more dynamic way (plus you can format the passages).

Or you can open the Text Comparison tool if you want to see multiple versions in a window.

I have both programs and there are some differences. I actually went from using Logos for many years to learning to use Accordance. Here is how I would accomplish this:

First of all I would have my workspace I use set up and open. Mine has the reports on the left, passage guide, exegetical guide and cited by on the left linked to my biblical texts in the middle and text comparison and info window on the far right:

Next click file/passage list then add then type your verses. You can change the translation if you wish.

Now when I click on a verse from the passage list my workspace changes to allow for further analysis and study:

I hope this helps. You can name the passage list to add to it later if you wish. There are design differences between the two program, each with their own strengths.

David, you can not enter non-contiguous bible verses in the text comparison box as you could in L3. For example John 1.1; james 1.1 will not show both verses in the text comparison results window. That is what I believe Todd was referring to. I will gladly be incorrect in this, but I don't think so.

Just a note: separate the verse references by comma or semi-colon. When you hit Enter, they will be added to your passage list.

And you can display them in multiple versions at once by entering the versions (separated by commas) in the box at the top:

EDIT: Also be comforted: everyone who has used another Bible software product first before L4 (including L3) goes through an adjustment period, and many of us grumbled at first because we hadn't yet made the paradigm shift. Once you learn the way of doing things in Logos that you used to be able to do in that other product, you'll be much happier with it. Do give it the full 30 days, and give it your best shot. Ask questions here. There are lots of folks eager to help. We can direct you to appropriate training videos if there are things you're frustrated at not knowing how to do in Logos.

Good points Rosie. The Mac version requires a comma to separate, not a semi-colon.
