Notes Search

Because it is way too cumbersome to have many notes files, I have one large one. When I do a search, it does find references, but there seems no way to actually get to the particular sections or even find specifically where they are. Any thoughts, or am I missing a way to have notes open to the proper place(s)?

I'm not aware of any way to get a notes file to open to the correct place.

Once you have the file open you can search it (press Ctrl-F when you have focus on the notesfile and you will get a text box) which will then give you the notes containing the search string.

Thanks for this input, Graham. However, when I open my one large note file and use Ctrl + f, the find box comes up, I type in a word (I know is used repeatedly) but nothing whatever happens. I must not be holding my mouth right today!!

What version of Logos are you using?

Tried that, but still nothing. Am using the brand new Logos 4.1 SR3 just released.

In your large notesfile do you have just one note or many?

All the Ctrl-F operation will do is filter the notes displayed in the notesfile to those which contain the search term - it won't actually highlight the search term or indicate where it is in any way.

So, if you just have one note, then the Ctrl-F won't do anything which could explain what you are seeing.

If you have many notes then I'm afraid I don't understand what you are seeing!

Graham, thanks for your attempts to help. Sorry I did not make clear that I have one large note file. So as you have said, there is no way to really find anything in it.

This is a weakness of the current way Find works in notes. I do wish it would find specific locations of text in the notes files, but I know of no plans to make it do that. It's something worth requesting.

In the meantime, the only workaround I can think of is to copy that text and paste it into some other software (such as Word) that has a Search function. Kind of cumbersome, but I do this in other situations where I've got some text somewhere (not from Logos) that I need to be able to search in.
