Can't find note in large note file

When I add a note to a Scripture reference, I can't find the note in my note file to add my text to it. I am a seasoned Logos user and the note file I am using is rather large. It was originally started in Libronix. Here are my problems:

My note file is not sorted in Biblical order - I think it is supposed to be, I don't know why it isn't and it hasn't been that way for a long time.
I am not aware of any way to find or search inside of my note file to find the reference. Perhaps that is something coming in a future release.
Why doesn't my note file move automatically to the new note so I can simply type my text? Maybe that is a planned improvement but it seems rather elementary.

Some of these problems may be with the one particular note file on my system I am using. As mentioned, it is a large note file that was originally started in Libronix that was brought along through the import feature Logos provided. Maybe there is some kind of a program that can be run on this note file to get is sorted and cleaned up. I certainly don't want to lose the years of work put into it.

Hi Kurt,

I'm a Windows user, so I'm not sure everything I say will apply to the Mac version. But here's an attempt to address some of your questions.

1. Normally when I add new notes to an existing notes file, they get added in biblical order. I haven't got a long notes file imported in from Libronix to play around with though, so I'm not sure whether this isn't working correctly for imported files. However, you can fix up the order (if it's not too badly out of order) by dragging the individual notes around. Click on the colored box to the left of the note and drag up or down, and you'll see a moving line showing where the note will be repositioned if you drop it right now. It would take a long time to fix it all up manually this way if the order is really messed up. I'd like to see them add a "Sort" feature for notes files, like they've got for Passage Lists. (It has already been requested on UserVoice, and you could go vote for it there.) The problem is, it wouldn't always make sense to offer this, because not all notes are attached to a Scripture reference. So where would you put the ones that aren't in the sort order?

2. There isn't currently a way to do that. You can search to find text within your notes by pressing Ctrl+F and typing in some text (it will actually just filter the notes file and show you all the notes that contain that search text). But the search function ignores references. So you can't, say, filter all your notes in the long notes file and show only the ones that are related to the book of Ephesians. That would be a good enhancement for them to add, or one could even argue that it's a bug that this doesn't work currently, and I'm going to propose it.

3. It's supposed to. It does in the Windows version. Maybe this is a bug due to the long notes file. Actually, I did see this happen once when playing around with notes on my machine, but I couldn't get it to reproduce.

Something else you might want to try, if this old notes file really is messed up, is create a new notes file, and drag the notes from the old one into the new one, one by one, in the correct biblical order. This might take a while, but it might be the only way (for now) that you can clean it up.

That is not yet implemented in the Mac version. It has been promised, but no target date is available.

I seldom used notes in Libronix and did not import any of the ones I did create, so I can't be of much help with that file. All my Notes created in in L4 (Windows or Mac) that are tied to a Scripture reference are arranged in canonical order. As Rosie said, we need a sort feature.

...I was forgetting that there is already a Sort feature -- a command on the Notes document panel menu -- which canonically sorts notes that are attached to a reference. It works in the Windows version, anyway. Not sure if it's implemented on the Mac side yet.
