Suggestion for an Applet
Starting Logos 4 takes a long time when compared to version 3 and I find this very frustrating when all I want to is check a Bible verse or perform a simple speed search. As part of a future release of Logos 4 could we have a light weight applet that can be used to perform simple searches and check references in a our preferred Bible. This would not need a lot of features but it would be really useful if it had a button to launch the full product.

I agree that I could use another program but then I have to buy a license for my preferred Bible and the option to integrate with the full version of Logos 4 would cease to exist. What would be really cool would be the option from the applet to launch a passage or exegetical guide...
Whilst all of this online integration is wonderful and I appreciate the way that Logos has grown from a simple Bible search and read program to a full blown Library and Research Assistant all of this comes at a price and I personally feel that the startup time for Logos 4 has become way too long. Based on the current architecture I can't see the startup time for Logos 4 ever being as quick as version 3 and lets be honest 3 is not that fast anyway.
There has been a lot of talk about attracting new users to the platform and I think immediacy is a big thing, when I started with Bible Software one of the things that attracted me was the speed of access to information and an important part of this is program start time. Unless the release candidate of version 4 is a lot faster than the current beta then I can't see Logos winning any new fans for start up speed.

Hi Graham,
Is it taking a long time to open the program itself (the Logos 4 splash screen, 'logging in', or "Preparing your library" remains on the screen too long), or does it come up and then takes a long time to load the Home Page? If it opens quickly, but you're waiting for the home page to load, you can uncheck the "Show home page at startup" box on the Customize menu (visible when home page is open).

Based on my library being fully indexed the timings are as follows:
Splash screen - 41 seconds
Signing in - 32 seconds
So thats 1 minute and 3 seconds before Logos 4 is 'started'
Rendering of the home page then takes another 16 seconds.
Timings would obviously be even worse if I needed to prepare my library, but I think that it is an unfair test, in comparison Logos 3 on the same system takes 45 seconds.
These are timings for first use, startup for both versions is faster on a subsequent start but signing on is always long.
One suggestion that I made before was that the startup process be changed so that Logos 4 signs on silently in the background after the program has started. Given that Logos 4 can work off line being 'signed on' is not an essential part of the startup process. I guess that items like file synchronisation and the delivery of personalised content for the home page would require that sign on be completed before startup but with a delayed sign on and the home page turned off Logos 4 startup would be a few seconds better than version 3 startup on my system.

I use MS Mesh to synchronise my laptop and desktop using v3 and it takes about 3 minutes to start up on my laptop and about half that on my desktop. I guess the synchronisation is causing the delay.

I like this suggestion. I don't need any personal content** when loading as I go straight to a Layout and Sync'ing doesn't need to begin until some time after the Layout has been loaded.
** v3 handles being offline for Home Page content!

I guess I missed what WordSearch had such a tool that ran in the systray. I would love a very fast little program that you could launch and be typing a bible verse immediately. Logos is overkill for this, but if you had a program that could access the Logos top bible it would be cool. Even better if it could run as a plugin to Word.
Until that happens I just use e-Sword and it opens really fast.
