Can some one shed a little light on this?

In Logos 3 I would see the following:

800x600

Normal

EN-US

As an example, in Matt 7:11 of the King James, the word "know"
translates the Greek word οἴδατε, which Strong assigned the number 1492. However in the NASB, the word is assigned number 3609a, which the NASB also
translates as "know". But to get the correct definition for 3609a you must look it up in NAS Greek
dictionary.

But in Logos 4 I no longer see 3609a but now I see 1492. However, Also, I can search on 3609a in the NASB it get's less matches than if I search for 1492 so 3609a is part of the metadata.

So, my question is from the NASB how can I see the Greek Numbers corresponding to the NAS Greek dictionary like 3609a?

    Bob,

I am not really sure what you are asking. However, I use NASB as my preferred Bible. So, when you have the Bible opened, click the Interlinear button to get the numbers you are looking for. 1492 is the number I get. I get it for the word "know" in KJV and NASB.

I hope that is what you are looking for.

In Matt 7:11 (any version), right click on "know" => click Lemma => click Power Lookup

In Libronix 3, there was a problem using NASB & KJV with Strong's Numbers. Lockman Foundation tagged their NASB translation to the NASB Hebrew-Greek dictionary. The KJV was tagged to the original Strongs numbering system developed in 1890.

The NASB uses a different Greek text than the one the KJV was based upon and is not always using the same underlying Greek or Hebrew word as the KJV.. In Libronix 3 you need to use Lockman's dictionary to get the numbers to work right. I believe Logos remapped everything in Logos 4 to help with this issue.

The amended Strong's number system of the NAS (those ending in a letter) caused quite a few problems in L3 similar to this, where KJV & NAS bibles used different numbers for the same word. L4 has rationalised the system so that the NAS bible uses the same Strong's number as the KJV and other Interlinear bibles. This means the NAS Dictionary is not a reliable source for Strong's definitions in L4 - use Enhanced Strong's or other lexicons like DBL, Vine's and TDNT that also provide definitions.

3609a or similar numbers were never used in L3 - the search/link was always on 3609! The quirk is that L4 allows a proper search on G3609a in the NAS and gives results different to G3609b!

And i think L4 has got <G1492> wrongly assigned to εἶδον.  I'll research this later ...

I don't know what to make of this so i'll just document the findings.

This is from LGNTI and the ESV:-

    Lemma G1492 G3700 G3708 G2467
    οἶδα 316 0 0 2
    εἶδον 314 0 27 0
    ὁράω 0 52 61 0
    ἴδε 29 0 0 0
    ὀπτάνομαι 0 1 0 0
    TOTAL 659 53 88 2

    This applies to NAS:-

    Lemma G1492 G3700 G3708 G2467
    οἶδα 316 0 0 2
    εἶδον 314 0 (666) 0
    ὁράω 0 52 (224) 0
    ἴδε 29 0 0 0
    ὀπτάνομαι 0 (2) 0 0
    TOTAL 659 (54) (547) 2

Numbers in parentheses are where some, if not all of the results, are duplicated eg. the (2) for ὀπτάνομαι should be one! The results for G3708 illustrate the problems that exist with searching Strong's Numbers for this resource. Basically, they cannot be trusted!!

NOTE: The TOTAL is the result of searching for the Strong's number eg. <G3708>

The other results come from searches like  <G3708> ANDEQUALS <lemma = lbs/el/εἶδον>

EDIT: you can readily see duplicate results in the Aligned view of Bible Search.
