Can the new Logos summarize one chapter of a book?
Yes - such as this:
I’m finding this really useful - reading a book I can get a summary of each chapter to get the gist of it and determine whether I need to read that chapter in details. In the days of paper books I’d skim read, this is even more useful
I feel like if I was an author of a book I would feel dissapointed & sadden on how shallow and how easy an AI summarize my chapter.
I am not saying you are wrong, but another way to look at it is that some authors I speak to are rapidly adopting aspects of AI summarisation, particularly when it comes to sifting out tonnes and tonnes of research material.
I would never use summaries of a book to 'read a book', but I when I am short listing materials for reading, I do find in some cases that an AI summary, along with old school speed reading, is a powerful combination.
Of course there is abuse of AI where people no longer think and use it for answers, rather than a study aid. Not that many years ago, my kids felt I was so unfair in teaching them how to read a paper map, rather than just let Apple or Google Maps tell them how to get to a location. My attempt was to get them to think critically of tech and not just check their brain at the door. I am not sure how well I succeeded, but they do know how to read a map! 😂
