Sometimes I'm very current in my forum reading, and when I am, viewing the forums would be much easier if I could use an "unread by me" filter. Even better would be either a quick-access button on the forums page for "View unread," or a persistent "unread by me" filter. Threads with any new (unread by me) content would appear in this view, and would open to the oldest comment unread by me.
