Logos: you have to fix the quote machine
Question: who is being quoted when a chunk is cut off + posted?
Add the quoted writer's name after the quote, Logos.
Make the cut a piece to quote simpler, please. I just quote the whole thing.

I agree. It’s a bit painful to quote a part of a users comment. It is possibly by typing > and tagging the user then copy pasting the portion of the quote, but it’s a bit cumbersome when you are quoting a long comment from page 1 and there’s multiple pages of comments. The reply button was actually nice for that.

You type the "at" symbol @ and then the user name - a selection will pop up for that on desktop @scooter Edit I can't get it to work on my mobile right now...

You can also copy, then type a ">" and paste the quoted text. It puts a quote bar on the right and indents the text.
Not elegant, allows you to show who's post you are quoting and then specify which specific text. Using the > and copy/paste, also allows you to quote different parts.
Not very elegant, but I think patience will pay off as Jason and his team start to add refinements now that migrated and up and running.

Now that we have our previous feedback and forum sites migrated, our focus is improving our new space. We're looking into improving the discussion threads and quoting, but many of the quoting options have been covered above.
Consider tagging users by starting with the @ sign, followed by their name.
To quote portions of text from others, type ">" and then hit the space bar before quoting their text.
I will see about recording a few demonstrations to ensure users are comfortable with these methods as soon as I can.

@Frank Sauer it didn't work.
Another thing you can do is (if you're on desktop), copy the text you want to quote, paste it into the comment box, and click the little Paragraph icon to the left of the box and change it to the "quote" icon. The text will appear like this comment. However, typos or edits to the original will show up as well. It's a bit cumbersome now because it's a change to how we've always done it, but I'm sure in time it will feel a bit more natural.On mobile, I believe the > method is the only way to do it, but I haven't tinkered much with mobile. PS you can always tell when I make a mobile comment by the fact that the first word in a sentence isn't always capitalized lol.

I think the convention is start the line with a > then your quoted text. Try the following below without the ‘ marks.

That did seem to work better when I just tested it - though I do see why the suggestions for better quotation are being made with using that step. Quoting from the Old Forums would be great in the New if it is possible to do so.

@scooter, you're looking at this all wrong. Each time you quote someone like this: @scooter, you get another 'Name Dropper' badge! @scooter, this can't be under-estimated in value. You (@scooter) can become the Name Dropper champion. @scooter, this means, on your account each and every day, you can gaze at all your @scooter badges!
(yes, I purposely didn't 'activate' @scooter). Just illustrating how to build up badges! Need to be more subtle, though.
