I've been on holiday, so missed all the excitement. But now I'm back, here's my initial views:
- I love it - it makes reading much easier.
- I also love the simplicity.
Having said that, it could still be improved in the following ways, in my view:
- Allowing some manual control over column width, preferably by a dropdown in program settings, and a slider in the resource menu.
- Adding a keyboard shortcut, and a command box command to toggle.
- Add visual prompts for page turning. Either an animated page curl, or large arrows in a semi-transparent box. I'd suggest these prompts only appear when the mouse is moving, and in the left/right areas of the panel.
- Add (optionally?) animated page turning.
- Add an option for 'book view'. This would add the following:
- Force the number of columns to be even, and add some shading in the centre to mimic the 'fold' of a book.
- Headers and footers. The header would show the resource title on one 'page' and the section title on the other. The footer would show the page number(s).
- There would be an animated page turn.
- Add a horizontal scrollbar. Tapping the left/right arrows would move one column at a time, tapping the scrollbar itself would move one page at a time. The scrollbar wouldn't show in book view.
- Offer better automatic control of vertical justification, so that all columns are of equal length. Ideally adjustments should be made by tweaking the spacing of headings.
- When moving through a resource by article, have the article placed at the top left of the page, even it it is already visible elsewhere on the current page.
