John Wesley's Journals

I mentioned in a different Post that I'm beginning to dive into Wesleyan history. I'm finding that his Journals are not just his Journals. It seems that there are "authorized" "edited" and those not approved. Even JW's finalized and approved Journals seem to be a category too. I could be reading that incorrectly, but it seems that his Journals are not as cut and dry as one would expect which makes it difficult to track what is "authorized" and those that are not.
Is there a history or the making of his "authorized" Journals? Something that would steer a person to read the real deal?
