KJV/LXX to Invitation to the Septuagint, 2nd ed.

I was reading
in respect to research into the contents of the LXX and apostolic fathers' use of scripture. The blog referred very positively to which is in Logos and had somehow slipped by me. It may have slipped under the radar of others, so I am bringing it to your attention.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

'The reader is cautioned, therefore, that there is really no such thing as the Septuagint.'
(I couldn't resist … the authors are quite direct.)

I wonder if Jobes and Silva are simply saying that because so many hands were involved in crafting 'the' LXX there is no single virgin LXX unlike the Vulgate which primarily was 'largely the work of one man (Jerome) at one time (the end of the fourth century) in one place (Bethlehem).' Hence this quote.
"Strickly speaking, there is really no such thing as the Septuagint." p 14.

@Milkman No doubt you're correct, though I'm not sure that gets one anywhere … as much as Jerome was Jerome, his sources were not straight forward (the crazy guy didn't use the Leningrad, for goodness sakes).
But more seriously, when I saw MJ's title, my teeth ground (a little). In my mind, 'the church' (lower case) has never theologically dealt with the LXX (pick a version) visa vis the Holy Spirit (Pastoral writer). To type-cast the KJV (as historic as it was) next to the LXX seems … well, sacrilege (if one assumes the Holy Spirit's involvement).

I'm not above using a bit of a blog title as a bit of click bait 😀
