“Auto Hide” option for the main Application Toolbar
The main application toolbar presents the following challenges for me. Perhaps others are experiencing the same frustrations.
(1) The left side application toolbar even in its collapsed icons-only state distracts my eyes from the content and text appearing immediately next to it in the left tile of my saved layouts. It also causes the left tile of my saved layouts to become too narrow. Consequently, I’m unable to use the toolbar in this location.
(2) The top application toolbar is becoming increasingly cluttered with icons that I don’t often use or have a need to see throughout each study session and some are distracting. (AI Credit Usage ring, Help Center, spinning Synchronization arrows, Account menu, Factbook, and overly bright Logos logo).
A logical solution would be an “auto hide” option for the main application toolbar similar to what is available in MS Word (for both top and left toolbar locations).
Using this option, the application toolbar would remain hidden until a mouse cursor is placed at the top or left edge of the screen depending on the location the user has chosen for the application toolbar. Once the application toolbar appears, clicking anywhere away from the toolbar could hide it.
A corresponding keyboard shortcut (ideally, a single key) could serve as a toggle button to make the toolbar appear or disappear if the “auto hide” option is enabled. (MS Word uses the “Alt” key for this purpose).
An additional benefit of this option would be an increase in both horizontal and vertical “screen real estate” currently available for reading, while still keeping the toolbar easily accessible.
This option has been requested by other users in previous discussion threads, but I could not locate it as a current Feedback suggestion, so I have submitted the following one. Please vote if you agree:
