4.2 Beta 2: Find in Notes ignores Scripture reference; please make it find that text too.

Suppose you have a notes file with lots of notes in it, attached to various Scripture references, in random order, and you want to find all the notes in it that are attached to the book of Ephesians. It would be nice if you could press Ctrl+F and type in Eph and filter the notes file to show just those notes. Currently you cannot. Ctrl+F will only find content text and title text, not Scripture reference text.

Actually, to make this feature work properly, it would need to be able to parse Scripture references completely so you could filter the notes to show only those related to Eph 3-4, for example. And you might need some way to know whether the user meant Logos to take the text they were typing in as text (i.e., only show me notes that mention this text) or as references.

Would the 'Save as Passage List' option work, since Ctrl+F filters on references in a passage list?

No because then you'd get just a list of the passages and not the notes. Sure, you could then click through to each of those verses and once there click on the note flag to see the note attached to it. But that is awfully cumbersome. There needs to be a way to see all your notes associated with Ephesians (or whatever) all in one place, in one easy step. Allowing Ctrl+F to filter on references in Notes seems like the perfect way to do it.

For any find in Logos to filter our Scripture references seems ludicrous to me. Isn't that Logos' primary purpose?

Another option, in case your suggestion isn't implemented, is to type the passage reference in the text box to the right of the auto reference.

That's fine if you think of it from the beginning when you're creating your notes. But I posted this suggestion as a direct result of having read of a user's frustration in not being able to find things in a long Notes file that he's been adding to for years, which he imported into L4 from L3. It's a mess because the notes aren't in canonical order, and he doesn't know why (they should have been inserted automatically that way) and there's no Sort feature so he can't easily get them into sorted order. He wants to be able to find stuff in this long Notes file and organize it better. I pointed out that someone has already requested a canonical sort feature for Notes on UserVoice, but I was appalled to discover when I tried searching for text that it ignores the Scripture reference. Thus I posted this report.

The Scripture reference is already there; it would be very odd to think I'd have to repeat the Scripture reference in the title of the Note. Nobody would figure that out on their own until it was too late and they'd already invested a lot of time in creating notes that they could now not filter by Scripture reference.

There is a Sort option on the Notes document panel menu in Logos 4 which sorts notes canonically that are attached to a reference.
