Why is the web version of the Bible totally black?

Hi Everyone,

I think I am missing something as opposed to it being a bug.

Close to the number one reason why Logos is just super difficult for me still is the lack of having multiple layouts open at a time (I am aware of floating windows…). Someone suggested to me to use the web as a second layout, which sounded like a good idea. So I went online and clicked on the thing to get me to my online Logos account.

From there I clicked on the "Bible" tab on the left side, and it opened a random text. However, the text is totally black. The computer is recognizing it as text though, since if I right click it thinks I am selecting a word.

I am attaching a screenshot, and any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Kristin

    Hi Kristin

I have never seen that behaviour before and don't remember it being reported!

Do you see the same thing if you use a different browser?

    Hi @Graham Criddle ,

Thank you for the response. I just tried it on a different browser and the Bible opens fine there. Then I went back to the first browser and logged in under incognito mode to see if it was a cookie problem, but it still didn't work there.

So it sounds like I need to report this as a bug? Or is there something else I can try?

Also, I just went to the "search" function, and that works, but the "bible" doesn't. I can attach another screenshot if it helps at all.

What browser are you using when you encounter these problems?

The post below indicates that the web app supports the following browsers:

    • Google Chrome (preferred)
    • Mozilla Firefox
    • Apple Safari
    • Microsoft Edge for Windows

    Hi @Aaron Hamilton ,

Thank you for the response. I am using Brave, which is where I access the forum and Logos store without a problem. Then went to check the version and it said Brave needed an update, so I updated it but it still didn't work. I then came back to the forum and see your edit about the Web FAQs and that brave is apparently not supported. :(

The other browser where it did work is Firefox, which is apparently supported. So I guess I shouldn't report this since they don't claim Brave works?

Given this, I think it must be a privacy / lack of privacy issue. Brave is Chromium based so it should work like Chrome, yet it has stricter privacy which is likely the issue. Perhaps that isn't the case, but I am worried that it might be in light of the Logos iPhone app, which collected so much data I actually decided against downloading it.

Thank you again for the idea about checking the browser.

    Correct.

Perhaps. It may also be that they cannot afford to spend the time optimizing the web app for many different browsers, so they have selected some of the most popular and kept it to that.

    Hi @Aaron Hamilton ,

Ok, thanks for clarifying, and I will use Firefox if I am desperate for multiple layouts open at once.

You raise a good point about why they don't optimize for Brave, as my understanding is that it isn't super popular. I am still suspicious of it though, given what the App store said about Logos, but I agree what you said is at least part of the reason.

Thanks again to both you and @Graham Criddle for your help.

It's possible that you might get it working in Brave if you go to the Logos App Settings and set "Enable limited view mode" to "yes". Note though that doing so will mean that the books will only support basic reading functionality, and many other features won't be supported. Still, this might be an alternative if you really want it working in Brave.
