how to limit search results to exact verse reference?

Good day all, how can I limit my search results such that only exact references to a given verse are shown? So, for example, I would like to search for "Rom 3:31" but I don't want every reference to Romans 3 to show in my search results. I only want to see exact references to "Rom 3:31."
Thank you,

The following search should exclude larger passage references that include Rom 3:31: Rom 3:31 NOT (Rom 3:30 OR Rom 4:1)

Try using bible:="rom 3:21"

One difference, perhaps, is that bible: searches data type references? So it would not yield results from ebooks that merely have a textual reference to Romans 3:31, correct
No - the approach I am suggesting should work in ebooks as well (example below)

Click on "All Bible Text", and then "Verse Number" under "SEARCH FIELDS" using a Bible search. Please let me know if I have misunderstood what you are trying to accomplish.

Sorry I want to search all my books for any reference to Romans 3:31.

This seems better, because it would yield results for all references that specifically mention Romans 3:31, without excluding relevant results that also happen to mention Romans 3:30 or Romans 4:1. Correct?

It would only return references to Rom 3:31 specifically.
It wouldn't, for example, return a result for a reference to Rom 3:30-32.
I thought that was what @Christopher Engelsma was looking for - if not, there are other options.

Correct. I was trying to accomplish the same thing. But your suggested search yields different results in my library than the one I suggested. I understand that this would have to be the case because they are different searches, but I'm trying to understand the nuance. One difference, perhaps, is that bible: searches data type references. So it would not yield results from ebooks that merely have a textual reference to Romans 3:31, correct? But I imagine there are advantages to this approach as well.

Thanks, Graham. I confess there's a lot about search that I don't fully understand.

You are welcome @Aaron Hamilton
There's a useful table at
Using Operators with References that might shed some light on how this aspect works.1 -
This is exactly what I need. I appreciate it! Also, thanks to @Dave Hooton for all the work on the user Wiki.
