either by my HD going out or downloading L4 onto a new laptop I am thinking about buying. Is there some way to down them on a thumb drive?

If you have Use Internet turned on, your note files—and other user documents—should download automatically from the Logos servers. Otherwise, someone better versed in the Windows file system will have to help you here. I am a Mac user.

If you have Use Internet turned
Jack i am confused by this phrase. Are you saying there is something i need to turn on while opening L4 like the internet? If so please explain how its done.
Thanks Jack for replying
"Use internet" is turned on by default, but it's possible to turn it off in settings. So long as it's on, you'll have a backup on Logos' servers. If you computer dies or is stolen, you'll automatically get all your notes back from the servers when you reinstall Logos on your new PC.
Logos' 'backup' (it's actually a sync) won't protect against accidental deletions, however, as when you delete a note it will delete it from their servers too.
And currently there's no easy way to backup and restore a note. However, if you take a backup of your Logos4 documents folder, it will at least be possible (though still not easy) to restore a note in case of disaster. I backup the folder 'just in case', though I'm not looking forward to restoring files from it should I ever need to. (You can't just restore the files, as it potentially confuses the Logos sync.)
You can find the folder at %localappdata%\Logos4\Documents
Mark explained it very well.

Can you be sure that this is not a boast? I was merely explaining my lack of knowledge as to the details of the Windows file system.

I think it was a joke from a PC user, humorously pretending that you might feel it necessary to apologise for having an inferior system. [:D]

I understood his point, but I disagree with yours. I did, however, apologize to me Mac Pro when I had to install XP via Fusion and Parallels in order to run L3 for inflicting the extra burden on a faithful machine. It has labored faithfully under arduous conditions of having to endure all that anti-virus software. After installing McAfee, my machine asked if I had a virus and did I need a hankie. [8-|]
