User Manuals?
If anyone knows where this is and where to access it, please let me know. I can only survive on what little is available at support. (This is a massive application., you know). [LOL, you pay out the wazzoo to get the application, but have to fess up more major $$ just to get to the meat of Logos' functionality, so it seems)

The official and free Logos video tutorials and user tutorials should pretty much give you all you need to know outside of syntax searching.

It would be so nice if Mo's manuals were also in digital form, particularly for us who are overseas and face horrendous postal charges. Or is that Mo's way of encouraging us to attend a seminar? [;)]

The official Logos video tutorials (including some done by Morris Proctor who is the licensed trainer who does the Camp Logos seminars, and some done by Logos employees) are at http://www.logos.com/videos.

I don't know of a downloadable user manual for Logos 4 that ever existed. Morris Proctor's 2-volume print-based user's manual for Logos 4 are available for purchase (Volume 1 and Volume 2), but are not in digital format yet. However I think he's open to the idea of it, he just hasn't committed to doing it. It would be a bear to keep it up-to-date fast enough, though, as Logos is constantly changing with new versions released every couple of months.
There's the built in Help file, but it's fairly minimal. There is a downloadable user's manual for Logos 3 written by Carl Bosma, but that isn't free, and it won't help you much with Logos 4.
The fact that Logos doesn't have a good, thorough, user's manual, available free with the product, and available in digital format as well as print-based, is a real weakness that many of us have bugged them about. However it isn't likely to change any time soon. It's been something they've never done. They've always outsourced their user's manuals, and they always seem to be an afterthought. Even the free print-based ones that used to ship with the early versions of Logos (made by outside parties) were not very thorough.
We power users are attempting to address the weakness by making the wiki be the primo place for all learning about Logos. But we're just a bunch of volunteers doing this in our spare time. I do really wish Logos would create a User Ed team to do some awesome, timely, and free training materials. But I'm not holding my breath.

SHould be easier to update a digital manual than a printed book![;)]

Online videos are only accessible to me when I'm away from home and can use a faster internet connection.

SHould be easier to update a digital manual than a printed book!
I was talking about a Logos format, as people had requested that. I think he's considering it. Not sure why he doesn't release PDFs of them, though I think it might have to do with how easy it would be for people to copy and send them around. I really do think something like them should be free with the product, but Mo's got to make a living too, and he's found his niche filling in for the lacuna in Logos's own training materials. It's a symbiotic relationship. I hate to think what'll happen when Mo goes... He's so good at what he does.

You could download all the online videos sometime when you have access to a faster internet connection for a few hours, burn them onto a DVD and then you can watch them from home whenever you want.

I am low vision and I need everything in Digital, if I am going to read. I have TTS and all that. Books need to be in large print otherwise I use this heavy dome shaped magnifyer. I use the magnifyer in Windows to see things not read aloud.
I know that Mr. Morris needs to make a living and I will avail myself of the offered manuals that are for purchase. The videos and other materials are ok to scratch the surface to begin to use Logos, but too scant to get my investments worth of use. I sure hoped to be able to attend his seminars when it was here. NOw, I will not see him come here for another year or so, so, I need to get all can that is offered.
Makes me wonder if I bit off more than I can chew and that I should have started smaller. Oh, but I just love Logos. My mind and spirituality is geting such a quantum boost. :-) ░░▒▒▓▓█│BarJabba│█▓▓▒▒░░ 0 -
I do not think the videos go into the depth a beginner needs. I will try to watch them again. I kind of need a basic how to do this kind of help file. I will see if the ones offered for purchase will be enlightening for me. I can afford the camp (I spent it on the product). I couldn't wait another year or more before it came back to town, if I could afford it.
I will just avail myself what is presently available, with this being a bit of a negative in this investment. (Most investments have negatives to them, not unusual).

I never got a DVD, since I ordered the downloadable version of the base package. Anyway that would only include the official Logos videos, which are divided into two categories on the website: there are the "Feature Videos," created by Morris Proctor, and then the "Tutorials." Actually these are mostly just brief introductions to features, not real tutorials. The user-created videos would not be on the DVD from Logos.
There is a need for something more substantial. I believe Mo is at work on a set of videos of the Camp Logos class, but as far as I know these have not been announced yet.

I know if the manuals were available in digital format, I would purchase them immediately. I would prefer them to be integrated with L4, but would still get them in pdf format.
I agree that Morris Proctor is probably hesitant in releasing them in pdf due to the ease with which people could copy them and give them to others. (There is just something wrong about Christians illegally coping a Bible software program) So from that perspective, I don't blame him for not releasing them. Maybe once the updates slow down he can make the manuals to work within the L4 program itself.

You would be appalled at all the Logos products being exchanged on BitTorrent, etc. The new way resource unlocking works in L4 was intended to address that, in part, as well as make it easier for legitimate users to aquire new resources. When I was Googling for an online user's manual for Logos 4, I saw that people are sharing something by that title around too on the torrent sites, but it must be a pirated scanned copy, since I am 99.99% sure nothing like that has ever been available for sale. I would never advise getting anything through that route, tempting though it might be. Aside from being unethical, it's also dangerous (high risk of malware, scams).

I know this was a few weejs back, sorry for the belated response.
I am not so sure a MANUAL for the users would be something I would be as worried about. Especially, if one composes it themselves and then offers it to the Logos 4 community. Being a users manual should accompany the software. The videos are just barely scratching the surface and really only get you to the position of having to (no, I mean really needing to) fork another $250 bucks just to know how to operate the thing effectively to feel that one is using it onto it's best level.
I am dirt poor and it was gracious that the Logos sales and staff allowed me to have payments. I am over half through with it and I am pleased so far. Except, I know nothing of it's best usage. For that, I would have to fly somewhere in the US (I couldn't afford the seminar when it was here in Glendale.)and I really can't go. I am on dialysis 3 days aweek and I would have a lot of planning and my wife, who is also my care giverm would have to come to. Getting off of her other employment isn't possible. Not during these economic travails.
All I would need is a manual. Maybe the seminar on video, which can be had for nearly the same cash outlay. For those who need to have it and cannot make ourselves available for a trip or other bad logistics.
I would consider butying the ones available on Logos (the two manuals) How much of the seminar is in those manuals anyway? Maybe have the author of the seminar find another source for som cash flow and just video the seminar or make one specially made. A good example is tutorials at: www.learnvisualstudio.net. I have been a member there since 2005. This man did it mostly by himself and has really grown and expanded.
Simply put I have had Logos 4 for about 5 months or more and I haven't gotten to use it like it can be used. Everything cost way too much. I just barely can afford the monthly as it is. I Mr. Morris has been considering expanding in this way. I believe it would be to his advantage. Especially if Logos would Add this to my account. ░░▒▒▓▓█│BarJabba│█▓▓▒▒░░ 0 -
I mentioned that in another post. I sure hope he gets it out soon. I simply cannot afford the camp. I really couldn't fly anywhere. I am wheelchaired and other stuff. I sure wished I could gone when it was here in August. It was just across the freeway too.. I just couldn't beg or borrow the cash for it. O am so very disappointed too.. i I hear these are great seminars. I do not mean to insinuate they are not worth the fee, BTW.
It will be another year I would guess before it comes to my neck of he woods again. I simply need the training (or the manuals, or even those videos) like 5 months ago.
The manual I see are $30 +/- x2. I will have to save up but that is near Christmas, so, I hope I can be blessed enough to do both.

not secure PDF's. YOu can secure the resource in a couple of ways. I need them in digital, because of l;ow vision and use a TTS screen reader (TextAloud). so video or text in digital format. Accessability NEEDS to be considered. All my books I try to purchase in audio or digital format.
Mr. Proctor could make some more coin if he could produce a video series of the camp. He can lighten his load of traveling and scheduling. Make it so he can make money on those that do not go because they'd have to get ait, Hotel, and food for the trip. Even if it is in town, you have to miss work, if one had a job. ai will have to wait until next year beifre seeing the camp out this way.
I wonder why Mr. proctor get some co-teachers to augment the camp. Making it more readily available and more lucrative. Plus, he would be helping AMericas economy a little my hiring some other camp teacher. I guess I see much more for the camp and Mr. Proctor.
