Logos for Linux Desktops

I know in the past others have asked for a linux version to be made available. I wanted to re-open this discussion as many of us have refused to remain a windows or mac os users and have gone to linux for not only price, but security reasons. As more and more of us go away from the staple os's, more and more of us are on Linux distros and have only a couple of choices for sermon prep and biblical studies, none of which are as user friendly as Logos, and many of them lack in good study materials, like commentaries and lexicons and historical references we can get in Logos.
So, please consider the growing market in Linux. Already you have apps available for android devices, and that has been helpful to me. But a desktop version for linux will prove not only profitable, but helpful to us who refuse to allow our security to be sacrificed for the use of a program. I hope that this helps you to make a decision to work towards a solution to the needs of many who would benefit from such a move.

Many blessings,

Jack K.

    Breakdown of Unix-based Systems

The majority of this 21% market share is comprised of:

macOS: Apple's macOS, which is based on Unix, accounts for about 15.4% of personal computer usage.

Linux: Various Linux distributions make up approximately 4.5% of the market.

ChromeOS: Google's ChromeOS, which is based on the Linux kernel, holds about 2.3% of the market share.

If these statistics are in the ball-park (they exclude servers etc.), I am not ready to ask Logos to dilute their programming support to support Unix - I think enhancing the mobile platforms is a better use of their limited resources. Nothing against asking for it, simply saying I suspect it is an uphill battle still.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

  • Logos Web App & Verbum Web App are usable on Linux, whose usage shows how many customers are using Logos and/or Verbum on Linux. More customer usage provides more incentive for Linux desktop development (& provides which Linux distributions have higher Web App usage).

Statcounter for December 2024 Desktop usage worldwide shows Windows & macOS have ~88% Desktop OS usage worldwide:

I don't necessarily disagree - however, if we look back to the time that Logos started the Logos for Mac development, that OS was in range of where Linux is now.

    Logos 10 - OpenSuse Tumbleweed, Windows 11, Android 16 & Android 14

Logos already runs on Linux. It is not officially supported by Logos, but the people who have made it happen discuss the latest issues here:

I do not use Linux, but I have watched the posts there. My advice is do not try to stay current. Once you have it running, turn off updates until the Linux experts get the latest version running.
