Microsoft duplicates web-based Communities such as:

                http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/FlyoutOverview.mspx

so that they also appear on Usenet newsgroup servers under:

                news.microsoft.com

If that were feasible, it gives the best outcome:

-
Users discover web forums more easily than Usenet;

-
Seasoned
contributors have the power of their preferred newsreader
(search, flagging, filtering, sorting, …) to provide support for those
who want help.

I can’t comment on how difficult it would be to set this up,
but it works well.

    If I recall, Bob said that their original goal was to have something like this, but were unable to make it work, so they went ahead and deployed the web forums as is. I don't think I have seen anything else on this in recent weeks, so whether or not this concept has been abandoned completely or not nothing has been said.

    If it looks like http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups then NO thanks!

    The big difficulty would be with user accounts. Posting messages to each forum would not be that big a deal. Tying it to a user account would be a bigger issue.
