I would like to explain why the difference in these titles.
Quite a few years back there was a boxed product that included the first 51 issues of Christian History magazine The magazine later changed it's name to Christian History & Biography. This product was in Libronix format and included all the graphics of the magazine. If you own the license to it, you can enjoy the many pictures it included and add just the upgrade title (Issues 9, 52–99) to save money by not paying twice for the text license on the first half of the total collection. (Thanks, Logos)
The Upgrade offered (Issues 9, 52–99) and the Complete Collection offered (Issues 1–99) are recent publications and do not have the pictures and graphics the magazine was so well known for. It is very unlikely the eye-candy will ever be added because the publisher does not hold copyright to the plethora of works. and securing those rights from from hundreds of missing & dead copyright holders is just about impossible.
Not to fear, the textual information and great articles are all still there. Unless you are an extremely visual learner like a few of my children, you will still find this resource worthwhile.

I've heard the explanation before, and I realize this is a CT issue, not a Logos issue. Nevertheless, it boggles my mind that CT can allow the photos in essentially the first half of the issues and claim they don't have the rights to the others (many of those images would be in the public domain). Why for instance would issue 9 not have pictures when the issues surrounding it do?
I have the full collection, and I find the pictures to be very nice additions to the articles in the early issues.

The original collection is "grandfathered" for current use by the license it came with. The original collection did not include issue 9 for whatever reason. I think it is telling to see CT only offers the text content in their PDF release. It is appears there was an issue raised about copyright way back and a settlement was reached that allowed the remaining production to be sold. I don't know and they probably won't tell. The missing issue 9 could have been the trigger case. Once again, I don't know. I accept their statement as to why it is not presently included. And, yes, it is a bummer to lose the second half of the pictures.

I'm bummed that I missed out on the early set that had the graphics. That is one of the things I love about the print editions. I have all the back issues in print up through issue 97, except a few that were out of print when I bought the set and that I still haven't been able to find elsewhere. The main reason I'd want the images is to be able to use them in teaching. I suppose for most of the public domain ones I could find the originals somewhere on the web, and I have some other good books of Christian history with color pictures in them which I could scan, but having access to them all right in Logos would have been much more convenient. I'm really looking forward to the Lion History Series (hope it comes out of pre-pub one of these days and has all the pictures included).

I'm not sure you missed out on the graphics. I bought the set in December, 2009--less than a year ago--and the first half of the issues had/have the graphics in them.

Thanks! Yes, I do have the graphics. I'd only looked closely into a few of the issues and I guess they were all more recent ones.

Ket me get this clarified a bit. Are you saying you purchased the Christian History & Biography Magazine (Issues 1–99) http://www.logos.com/products/details/4634 (latest & complete collection) and it does include the pictures from volumes 1~8 and 10~51? If this is the case, my assumptions about the copyright issue were exactly as assumed. I still believe them when they say the balance of the pictures are not available. I'm open if they want to change that statement.
fwiw: I do have in for both the LION History and Access series. I hope they make it out of Pre-Pub this year.
