Suggestion: Multiple layouts

Posted this on Uservoice, thought I'd make note of it here: http://bit.ly/aK21dQ
Sometimes I find myself wishing I could open multiple layouts. Perhaps I'm in my sermon prep layout and I want to spend a moment taking a closer look at Greek so I open my Greek layout then have to switch back to the Sermon layout when finished. I'd like a way to open that second layout in a floating window while leaving the first layout still open rather than having to switch entirely from one layout to another.

You can create a layout that has floating windows within it, so you could set up a layout that has two different floating windows in it, each of which is set up the way you've got one of your two separate layouts now, and then save it. You can switch back and forth between them using Alt+Tab (if on Windows) or whatever the equivalent is on the Mac. The two floating windows won't have the benefit of names ("Sermon Layout" and "Greek Layout") but if you're just toggling back and forth between two floating windows it shouldn't get confusing.

This would work if I always wanted the same layouts, but if I'm more spastic than that (one time want my Sermon and Greek, another time Sermon and Hebrew, another time want to open Daily Reading while keeping Sermon up, etc etc) then it wouldn't work. What I've suggested allows for more flexibility.

I like your request. Another work around until they possibly develop it is to keep the resources you want in a floating window in a file in favorites. You can then right click on it and select open all in a floating window, then drag them into the layout pattern you want.

Yes, you're right. That would be more flexible. Actually it turns out that someone else has proposed your exact suggestion before on UserVoice and it has already garnered a number of votes. So vote for it there and who knows. It might become a reality someday. [:)] I think I'd use it if it came along, though I can't spare the votes right now. I've got them all allocated to other things I want more.
EDIT: Oops, I see you'd added it to UserVoice too. You might consider moving your vote over to the one that's already got 13 votes and asking the Logos folks if they'd consolidate these two. It's better not to have redundant feature requests because they don't accrue as many votes each.

Well curse my searching skills. I looked around Uservoices a little but didn't see another suggestion like mine, but there it is. Withdrawing mine and plugging in to that one.

The best way to look around UserVoice for a similar suggestion is type in one keyword into the "enter your idea" box on the main page. It will filter all the entries and show you only the ones that mention that keyword. I just typed in layouts and it came up right away as the second item down. For some reason that isn't working now, even though the item is still in the database and still has the word "layouts" in its title. Weird.
