Alt+P Pastes in Windows but window stays active

So, pretty new to the windows side of things. I learned in a previous post that when you bring up Copy Bible Verses that if you invoke Alt+P, it will paste the passage into Word. That works great. But sometimes the Copy Bible Verses window goes away and the Word document is active again - Perfect!!! But sometimes, too many times, it just sits there in the front active and I have to activate the Word document again to work. Is there are reason for this????
