Character Studies

I am beginning a study of persons in the Bible. The Chronological Life Application Study Bible has some Personality Profiles which are helpful. I was looking for info on the prophet Amos but it is not listed there. Ultimately I want to cover every person who is listed in the Bible - what they did well, what they did not so well and what I can learn about God from their life and their relationship with God. My goal is a deeper relationship with God. I intend to begin in Genesis and work through the old and new testaments. Do you have any suggestions of resources that would be helpful? If you have worked on something similar, what did you do?

The first thing that came to my mind was the Factbook. However, certain people's entries on there are not so in-depth. I would also try looking at Bible dictionaries or encyclopedias for further information. I hope that helps.

Check out 'The John Phillips Bible Character Series' $71. You get 3 OT vols., + 1 NT book.
Can be bought separately. Each volume goes in Biblical order.
Phillips was a Moody guy. He writes in organized chunks, with an experienced pastoral smoothness.
I don't know how to paste a hot read, nor a sample. Perhaps read inside on the product page.

Sometimes, I wonder what to study next. I have OT vol 1 designated as 'gotta read.'
Your request, Michael, pushes this volume to now!! So, thank you.

@ NetworkGeek: I'd like to commend your snippet choice. Chap. 22 is robustly within the book.
So many sellers start the cut from the beginning: the series editor's note, the author's note, the preface, the intro…….but leave little, if any, room for a 'meat' sample.

@scooter thank you, but I only included that snippet, looking as wise as I did, because @Michael Kinch said he couldn't find Amos in his own book so I wanted him to see if it looked useful to him. I assure you, if he had not suggested a person, I would not have looked nearly as wise in my snippet choice!

Chuck Swindoll’s Biography Series is good. John G. Butler’s Biography Series too, but too much alliteration which is forced at times, but good overall. The Face2Face series also.
